About Me

My musical adventures have taken me from rock bands and jazz to the orchestral scene of London, playing bassoon and contra bassoon (that's even bigger and deeper sounding) with the Royal Philharmonic and Engish Chamber Orchestra when fresh out of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, to the pit of the show "42nd Street" which I did for two years when Catherine Zeta Jones was a chorus girl... (didn't she do well!) and back to rock with lots of interesting side adventures! I have written lots of different types of music over the years and so it has been hard to put what I love doing in a pigeon hole.2006 saw me pouring out songs again and recording them. Album of 14 songs "A Different Story" available on request.2007 has been a mixture of gigs singing my original material and lots of bassoon and contra bassoon again so life is truly circular!Meanwhile I continue to compose both classical and rock and am interested to collaborate on any exciting projects.Machines and The Traveller

Band Members: Tom Hardy - vocals, bassoon, contra bassoon, sax, keyboards, guitars, bass and programming. Have had a go at the spoons too but not so hot....oh and did I mention the BASSOON? Have a listen to Nocturne if you think it's just a low buzzy instrument. ;-) You will be forgiven for thinking the contra bassoon a little more esoteric! Sheet music for Nocturne available from Music Room: http://www.musicroom.com/product.aspx?product_id=65598
Influences: Any artist who has a unique sound and who puts his or her heart and soul on the line has my total support so my influences are across ALL genres. So, everything from about 1500 AD onwards... though some of those monks were pretty good earlier than that too.Favourites have always been Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Mahler and the thrill of a live orchestra will never leave me.When I am not playing/listening to classical music then I love female vocalists - Sarah Mclachlan, Nerina Pallot (myspace queen and now awfully FAMOUS all of a sudden!) Alanis Morrissette, K T Tunstall, Lucie Silvas, Tori Amos. I was raised on The Beatles, David Bowie and Roxy Music and was seen leaping up and down to the Jam and all the new wave stuff when I was too young to be in the pub but was anyway. But I don't just listen to female vocalists..Love Sting and Seal too and Steely Dan (not because they all begin with S...). And I keep finding some fantastic talent on myspace so the journey continues.
Sounds Like: You tell me!"The bassoon is one of my favorite instruments. It has the medieval aroma, like the days when everything used to sound like that. Some people crave baseball . . . I find this unfathomable, but I can easily understand why a person could get excited about playing the bassoon." Frank Zappa
