Simkin Artist Management (SAM) was established in 2001 by entertainment attorney Jonathan Simkin. SAM’s first client was Warner/Maverick recording artist Lillix. Lillix’s first album, Falling Uphill, was an international success having sold hundreds of thousands of copies throughout the world (including a platinum record in Japan). The album was also nominated for two Canadian Juno Awards in 2003. SAM continued to work with Lillix on their follow up album, Inside the Hollow (Maverick/Warner).
Beginning in 2007, Simkin Artist Management expanded to include an assortment of artists ranging from Country to Pop, Rock, and Folk. Recently we have added George Canyon (Somebody Wrote Love, Classics) to the roster. Canyon has received numerous awards for his accomplishments including two Juno Awards for Country Recording of the Year for Somebody Wrote Love and One Good Friend. His latest release, Classics, features a collection of classic country hits that Canyon would listen to growing up and that helped him to develop his love for country music. Canyon’s version of Cash’s “Ring of Fire†is the first single from the album, and was released to radio in September of 2007.
SAM’s roster also includes Jessie Farrell who has signed a deal with 604 Records/Universal Music. Farrell recorded her current release, Nothing Fancy, in Nashville with acclaimed producer Garth Fundis (Sugarland, Trisha Yearwood, etc). She performed at this year’s Canadian Country Music Awards where she was nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Chevy’s Rising Star.
The most recent addition to our roster is Aaron Pritchett (Big Wheel, Something Goin’ On Here) who won a CCMA award in 2007 for Socan Songwriter of the Year with “Hold My Beer.†Pritchett reached 3 on the Canadian country radio chart with the title track off his latest release, Big Wheel, staying in the top 10 for over eight weeks.
Marianas Trench brings the pop/rock aspect to our roster with their 604 Records debut album Fix Me. Their video for the hit single “Shake Tramp†reached the top spot on MuchMusic's countdown on August 10th, 2007. The video also reached a peak of 5 on the ITunes top 20. Fix Me documents a hugely ambitious Vancouver quartet that has been relentlessly writing, fine-tuning, and performing since the turn of the decade.
Upcoming acts Italian Edition (The Fable of the Mouse and The Frog), Adrian Glynn (Self Titled), 16mm, and Lotus Child (Gossip Diet) round out our roster. We will see great new things from these artists in the months to come!
