Hi! I'm Jonathan Edwards, founder, artist and CEO of Pocketlint Productions. Pocketlint was born out of extreme poverty during my senior year at Morehouse College. I had been hanging with a crowd not so lovingly referred to as "trendy pan-africanists," who used to sit around elevating our consciousness and thinking up ways to create a counter-culture. From fashion to politics, to music, to sports - you name it; we sought to put our unique perspective on display.I had always been a cartoonist and television aficionado and this peer group inspired me to combine those two passions in a way that would challenge other black people to think outside the box. At the same time, some of my cartoons were getting press in the school paper and a lot of people were noticing my work. I was extremely broke so I planned to make my drawings work for me somehow. There was only one major problem: no one bought them. The fashion show that defines HBCU life, however, inspired me to put them on t-shirts. All I had in my pockets at the time was lint, just like most of my customers, so the business basically named itself.
