The AMERICAN-ARAB ANTI-DISCRIMINATION COMMITTEE (ADC) is a civil rights organization committed to defending the rights of people of Arab descent and promoting the rich cultural heritage. ADC, which is non-sectarian and non-partisan, is the largest Arab-American grassroots organization in the United States. It was founded in 1980 by former United State Senator James Abourezk and has chapters nationwide and members in all 50 states.ADC is committed to:
1. Empowering Arab Americans;
2. Defending the civil rights of all people
of Arab heritage in the United States;
3. Promoting civic participation;
4. Encouraging a balanced U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and;
5. Supporting freedom and development in the Arab World.
Now more than ever, the Arab-American community needs a powerful, effective national and local organization to defend its interests. ADC is that organization. ADC was founded in 1980 by former U.S. Senator James Abourezk.With headquarters in Washington, DC, the organization operates offices in Boston, Dearborn, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, and San Diego. ADC welcomes members of all faiths, backgrounds, and ethnicities. Former US Congresswoman Mary Rose Oakar is currently ADC’s president.These are crucial times for Arab Americans. Perhaps at no other time in U.S. history have we been more under siege. The number of attacks against Arabs has risen sharply as have incidences of discrimination and negative images of us abound daily in the media. The ADC is committed to fighting discrimination, negating stereotypes, promoting a just U.S. policy towards our relatives and the people in the Arab world, and celebrating our rich cultural heritage.ADC is the national association of Arab Americans that works in every sphere of public life to promote and defend the interests of our community and to make this country a better place for our children. ADC is a grassroots civil rights organization, which welcomes people of all backgrounds, faiths and ethnicities as members.ADC empowers us and provides our community a voice.
