About Me

Now playing: davecorsello's station - Dave Corsello's Station
Dave Corsello is a NJ guitarist and composer.
Dave studied classical guitar with Joe Owens at Jersey City State College (JCSC), where he performed with the JCSC Jazz Band under the direction of Dick Lowenthal, and with the JCSC Percussion Ensemble and pit orchestra under the direction of Nick Cerrato. In 1985 he was featured guitar soloist in a performance of Jack Reilly's "Jazz Requiem" for jazz quartet and choir, sharing the stage with the composer and with fellow student, bassist Brad Jones (Jazz Passengers). That same year, one of Dave's own compositions was featured in a Jazz Band concert. Between 1983 and 1986 he performed with guest artists Harold Danko, Randy Brecker, Sheila Jordan and Harvie S., and he received his B.A. in Music Education in 1986.
In more recent years, musicians with whom Dave has performed, recorded or jammed include bassists Kermit Driscoll, Andy McKee, Ed Schuller, Dominique DiPiazza, Sue Williams and Ken Schweighardt, pianists Rave Tesar, Mark Adamy, Ilya Maslov and Harry Miller, trumpeter Vinnie Cutro, drummers Thierry Arpino, Don Guinta, Bill Tesar, Ray Levier, Don Gardner, Mike Frasche, Mike Lutz and John Kerswell, guitarists Joe Owens, Vic Cenicola, George Hodnett, Wayne Farley, Scott Sherwood, Kevin Lutke and John Diaz, saxophonists Jack Leeds, Mike Foster and Andy Holland, Dove award-winning producer Plink Giglio, pianist/producer Sal Oliveri and multi-instrumentalist Dave Edwards.
About the songs on this page
Make My Heart New: A meditative mood piece. Acoustic guitar, electric sitar, Oberheim-ish soft synth, sampled upright bass and sampled drums. Produced, composed, arranged and performed by me.
Island of Opportunity: A 5/4 bossa. Produced, composed, and arranged by me. Dave Edwards played and recorded the drums, and I did the guitars and sequencing.
O Holy Night: This arrangement is inspired by Pat Metheny's 80/81, one of my all-time favorite recordings. Produced, arranged and performed by me.
Fugue (unfinished): An organ piece in the style of J.S. Bach. Composed and programmed by me. SDG!
Ancient of Days: An experiment in throat singing ala David Hykes. Composed, performed and recorded (crudely) by me.
Column of Smoke: A tune that vacillates between self-reassurance and anger, dealing with the loss of love. Produced and arranged by me, words by Tom Johnson, music by Tom Johnson and me, with Tom on vocals and me on everything else.
Third Stone From the Sun: This is a live recording, featuring trumpeter Vinnie Cutro, keyboardist Rave Tesar, drummer Mike Frasche, bassist John Lenis (whose performance was, unfortunately, not recorded--the bass in this recording is sampled), and me on guitar and guitar synth.
Untitled: This was just for fun.
November: This is a pre-production sketch.

Life
Bob and Vera Kensinger. They demonstrated that happiness results from being at peace within one's self, not from possessions, power or prestige. Bob and Vera ran a summer camp that my brother and I attended as teenagers. They owned nothing--not even the land on which the camp was built. But they loved Jesus with all their hearts, and the genuineness of that love and the benefit it brought to them and those around them made a deep, lasting impression on me.
Sounds Like: Hopefully increasingly like myself!
