Coming up in the crime-riddled section of Uptown's 3rd ward and New Orleans East's rough Downman & Curran neighborhood, Knick Gunna(aka Gunz) learned about life the hard way. Growing up between two single parent households was challenging. Living in an overcrowded Eastern New Orleans one-bedroom apartment, Gunz slept on the floor for most of his upbringing sharing sleeping quarters with countless relatives on the regular. Raised Uptown with the maternal side of his family in the tough areas of Delechaise St. and Louisiana Avenue Parkway, Gunz learned that "you gotta get it how you live in this world." Because of his overcrowded households, he spent most of his time outside, observing and experiencing the harsh realities of New Orleans first hand.Dealing with family members' addictions and poverty, Knick made a promise to himself to never take that route. After being kicked out the house at seventeen, circumstances compelled him to enter an early manhood. He hasn't looked back since...
After highschool, Knick Gunna hooked up with schoolmates Snipe & Blaze and as "Tha Faculty", they created a buzz for themselves on the streets of New Orleans. With the strength of their club-ready song "Keep Movin'", Tha Faculty aka Fac Mobb performed at numerous shows in the city while also appearing on local television shows "All Good In The Hood" and "Phat Phat N All That". They dropped their first mixtape "The Proof Vol.1", which was well recieved and garnered rave reviews. Shortly after, Hurricane Katrina dispatched them to the music scene in Atlanta, where rubbing shoulders with industry insiders resulted in Fac Mobb performances at venues stretching along the Gulf Coast. Upon returning to New Orleans alone in the Spring of '06, Gunz decided to pursue his solo career.
As he prepares for the underground release of his first solo project,"The Engagement Vol.1: Killa Connect", Knick plans to take listeners into his 20 year life of struggles and triumphs. From the street anthems to clubs bangers, Knick Gunna's music reflects all aspects of life in the "Murder Capital". Featuring several of New Orleans's biggest local artists in addition to his own circle of success, he is poised for stardom. But the fame isnt what he's after. "I feel like I got it," says Gunna." I know I'm here to deliever a message to people, and I know that they'll recognize that and listen. Im THAT nigga!" He knows what it takes to move you. After all,he's been doing it all his life...
