Da Vinci Code followers, be afraid… Mormons, hide your wives… Jews for Jesus, your days are numbered…A new Cult has come to town.
THE CULT is an outrageous, half-hour comedy that follows a zany group of characters as they struggle to break into the highly competitive world of religious cults. Combine the hilarious improvisation of Curb Your Enthusiasm with the outlandish shenanigans of Reno 911! and you have a window into the delusional world of THE CULT.
Everyone who’s anyone is seeking enlightenment. Ashton and Demi sport the red bracelets while Tom and his new lady strive to become “clear.†THE CULT’s gaggle of misfits aim to create Hollywood’s next big spiritual answer… just as soon as they can agree on which Starbucks to meet at.
Max, the cult’s self-proclaimed leader explains, “We’re not going to be psycho like Heaven’s Gate or The Branch Davidians… I mean, we’ll have a few token virgins, but that’s just protocol.â€
Each episode will expose the inner demons of the six characters as they fight tooth and nail to get The Cult off the ground and gain credibility. This group of bumbling idiots has some hard work ahead of them: they need to figure out their gimmick, pick a letterhead font, and eventually recruit members. They will hand out flyers on the street to out-of-work actors promising amazing networking results, and try recruiting the vegan Yogis at the Buddha Center. And if those outdoor concerts work for the Hare Krishnas, well then the group has some musical skills to brush up on.
THE CULT just wants to be mentioned on Oprah once in a while… Is that too much to ask?
