...It all started in a small town in Central IL. I was part of a sr. class of 28. Everyone decided which direction to go and I chose the Navy, 6yr enlistment. It was my Jr. yr when I made that decision & I hadn’t ever seen the ocean. After boot camp the navy had me in San Diego for 6month and then out to finish my 4.5 yrs on board the USS Chosin. I meet up with the ship halfway through a 6month deployment to the Persian Gulf. The ship was home ported out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Everything was a little different from the small town I grew up in. Within a year I made some of my best friends I ever had & I was the only white guy aka "Haole". We would ride motorcycles, hang out at the beach, go hiking or partying at friends houses every week. When I was out at sea with the ship we finished 3 deployments to the gulf, 99’, 02’, & 04’ & was able to go to 13 countries. 6yrs goes quick when you are having fun. I decided to leave the navy and start a career as a civilian. I had to move and found a great job here in Chicago, IL working as a medical electronics engineer.
