About Me

Born and raised in Minneapolis Minnesota, I first discovered techno in 1992. A few years later I heard gabber (hardcore) for the first time, and immediately fell in love with this music that can be both melodic and hard. Upon realizing that all my CDs were coming from Holland, I decided to investigate this seemingly ideal country. What I found in the land of tulips and wooden shoes far exceeded any expectations. Gabber at that time was mainstream in the Netherlands, and could be found in coffee shops, commercial music shops, and even in music videos on Dutch MTV. I saw my future in music in this strange land where gabber could reach such heights. But first I had to finish University in the U.S. During this time I bought decks, taught myself how to mix and began playing out. I also started working as the hardcore selector for Vital Vinyl Records. In 2000 I moved to Amsterdam for a semester, then, returned to the States, graduated, and immediately after, moved back to Amsterdam. During this time I thoroughly explored and participated in the Dutch gabber scene. However, Holland is very bureaucratic and also because of other reasons I couldnt set up a life. So, I moved back to the states, but because of my ideals with music, politics, and culture I couldnt let go of Europe so easily, and one year later I moved to the second biggest stronghold of gabber, Italy. However, Italy wasnt for me and in 2002 I moved to a country where there was no gabber at all, The Czech Republic. The land of cheap beer and beautiful women may not have had any gabber but did and does have one of the largest underground hardtek (tekno) scenes in the world. Its within this subculture that I thought gabber could blossom. In 2005 I made my debut in the Czech Republic and gabber quickly caught on in a hard music scene that was eager for a fresh style. Two other people and I formed the organization; Czech Gabber Force, which promotes gabber through parties, a website, and merchandise. I play with them as well as with other organizations, and am credited as being the first all gabber DJ in the country as well as creating the first following of this style. It turned out that the country with no gabber at all, was the best place for gabber. ____________________________________________________________ ______ Carotek!
