The Billy Laird Jazz Combo is a new group in the Houston area looking for playing opportunites. The BLJC effectively blends instrumentalists and vocalists, a combination that's increasingly rare in present-day combos. The BLJC is composed of experienced and innovative musicians. The instrumentation of the combo ranges from (but not limited to) horns, Rhythm Section, and Vocals. The possibilities are endless with the vast amount of talented musicians in the area. The combo has abilities to fit in small venues with just a trio (drums, bass and piano or guitar) OR if need be the BLJC has the capabilities to easily turn into an octet with the instrumentation of drums, bass, piano, guitar, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and vocals. Whatever the need, the BLJC is prepared for to perform at and every occasion for an AFFORDABLE price. History of the BLJC: The jazz combo got its start playing Friday nights in the summer of 2006 at an Arlington, TX coffee house. The genres that one may hear the BLJC play are : Funk, Blues, Jazz, Bossa Nova, Samba, Salsa, Afro-Cuban and Soul. Sometimes even a combination of genres as well. With a selections stemming from the late 1930s to the present day billboard charts, the BLJC stays busy trying to emulate the greats as well as add their own flavor to the music. Since the summer of 2006, the BLJC has formed a modest fan base and has just finished recording and producing the combo's EP in the summer of 2007. The BLJC aspires to become one of the better jazz groups to come out of the the Houston area.
