The Average White Boy is an obvious shoutout to the Average White Band, the classic Caucasian-American funkband of the 70's and 80's. Not in any way does he undermine the black music of America from which the essence of funk, soul, jazz and blues evolved from - he rather accentuates the fact that only a tiny few of the "white folks" have mastered this music in the last century (AWB, B. Caldwell, Doobie Bros, Steely Dan, Hall & Oates among others).
Growing up in south Florida (1980-1984) listening to R&B radio and the memories of his kindergarden bongo lessons, the AWB has been victimized by the musical aura of that era resulting in his almost naive perspective on music melody, song arrangement and lyrics. As he moved to Scandinavia his influences encompassed the synth scene of Europe and the early days of hip hop - similar to most youngsters of his generation. By the likes of Vince Clarke, Quincy Jones, Gorgio Moroder and several others, the AWB was taken by the existence of the one-man-producer who could move artists and musicians in different directions. Along with attaining skills on drum machine, theTR-707 being the first, and the keyboard synth, the Roland JX-3P (at the age of 7) he quickly understood the possibilities that layed before him with MIDI and computer generated sound close at hand.
Today, the Average White Boy strives for higher accomplishments within the musical realm. Currently he is working on his full length album to be released spring 2008. In the '07 he will be working on other projects - under different aliases. Keep checking myspace and teddycast for more music & info!
