Beverly SandsToday Beverly Sands is a remarkable singer. Her performances project elegance, style and sophistication. She is one of those singers who can engage an audience almost immediately, through her sheer presence and the outstanding qualities of her voice. Beverly's repertoire ranges from the popular standards of Gershwin and Cole Porter, the Latin rhythms of Antonio Carlos Jobim and the familiar melodies of Lennon and McCartney, to the more contemporary material associated with performers such as Vince Jones and Renee Geyer. In every case she can take the song and make it her own, delivering it with warmth, maturity and authenticity, to match exactly the mood of these complex times in which we live.
Larry Golder
Larry Golder was the doyen of guitar in Adelaide. He was equally at home with jazz, rock and classical music.
Larry was born and raised on Kangaroo Island and was proud of his ancestory. His great great grandmother was a Tasmanian aboriginal who married an English sea captain. They were among the first settlers on Kangaroo Island.
Music has passed on from generation to generation in Larry's family. His professional career began playing banjo in his mother Mavis's dance band. They played at weddings, parties and social events the length and breadth of the island.
Before his unfortunate death, a week in the life of Larry Golder would include an engagement with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, performances in the latest Lloyd Webber musical, recording session work for children's television, deputising as bass player in a funk band and accompanying singer Beverly Sands in restaurant and club engagements.
An automatic choice for visiting interstate and international acts, he had worked with artists as diverse as John Farnham, Don Burrows, Kiri Te Kanawa, Judith Durham, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rolf Harris and Demis Roussos.
Besides his performance work, Larry was a highly respected musical director and arranger, and taught master classes in guitar at the Adelaide University.
Larry was an impeccable accompanist, bringing a unique style, warmth and sensitivity to each performance. His musical partnership with Bevery Sands spans some eighteen years and he complements her performances perfectly.

The making of Sands And Golder
For as long as I have known my mother and father, they have shared their passion for music together. I'm sure I have witnessed something very special and rare. Many nights I can remember where Beverly and Larry would sit at our humble kitchen table, charts would be flung one after the other amonst musical ideas and conversations well into the early hours of the morning. The sound of Larry hurling his tasteful chords and Beverly bouncing off them with sheer delight and deep sultery tones. It is as much a part of my childhood as the smell of jasmine wafting through the air on a summers day.
Many a gig I have sat and listened proudly. A musical partnership stretching for longer than I have even been alive is obvious when you hear how masterfully they intertwine and instinctively know where the other is heading musically. Never a note wasted or thrown away.
My only sadness is that this was the only cd ever put together of their work. May it carry through the air and haunt you as it has haunted me.
