3 Miles Away is a one-man-project of Lassi Vehviläinen. 3MA was founded somewhere between 2004-2005 when Vehviläinen started to be interested in music and making music. In the beginning, he had only a computer and a midi software called Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. He composed new songs into the software every now and then. During so called 'Cakewalk time' Vehviläinen composed songs for two albums. Back then the biggest influences came from Finland and they were Apulanta, Stella and 51koodia. A foreign flavour was brought to the mix by an American punkrock band Green Day.During the first album Vehviläinen used the name 'Something New' but it was changed soon to 3 Miles Away. The first album of Vehviläinen's was called 'The Story Never Changes' (Feb/2006) and it didn't contain any musical finesses and it was and is still today just a boring piece of garbage. The second album carries a name 'Broken Hill' (Mar/2006) and when Vehviläinen was composing the songs, he took influences more and more outside Finland, mainly from USA. Back then he listened to Green Day, Sugarcult, Yellowcard, Autopilot Off etc..
Soon after this the 'Cakewalk time' was luckily far away in history. Vehviläinen had a year long break in front of him and he didn't have time to make new music. At that time Vehviläinen listened to everything from metalcore to pop punk and from screamo to indierock. New influences was caught especially from the States. The Spring 2007 came and it was time to make some new songs. The new songs were between genres such as indie and pop punk. Even these songs were good enough and the music of 3MA was changing again in the summer of 2007. Now the most important influences were Silverstein, Saosin and Disco Ensemble. 3MA was reborn.
In the summer of 2007 Vehviläinen headed to his home studio which was built a couple of years earlier into his parents's old farm house. In the beginning of August 6 songs were recorded without vocals. The songs were uploaded on MySpace and Purevolume and at least the song 'My Fault' has been popular. Vehviläinen was busy during the Autumn of 2007 and he wasn't able to record the vocals. The vocals will be recorded when there's enough time.In the November and December of 2007 the music of 3MA has been changing again. The American metal/post hardcore band underOATH has become 3MAs biggest musical influence. So in future the music of 3MA will be even more hardcore than before. Because of this, it's very hard to find a similar band from Finland.
