B I O G R A P H YNo, JAHARI XL is not just a beat maker. As a classically trained musician, JAHARI XL actually produces records. We are in trying times…in an industry where anyone with a computer and the ability to man a basic digital audio workstation can call himself a producer, JAHARI XL is a breath of fresh air. His production style is outwardly simple yet layered with complexity. No matter the approach he decides to take when producing a record, JAHARI XL relishes in the opportunity to work directly with the artist fully collaborating in the creation of a project that is organically representative of the talent of the songwriter(s) and the artist(s). “I just like working on a song with the artist, not just making a beat and sending them on their way. That really takes all the fun out of it for me.†This is the exact approach he takes when working with Hot2Def, Chicago’s newest rap phenom. JAHARI XL produced their hit single, “Leggins and Heelsâ€, which is currently receiving airplay gaining momentum in several markets. Clearly he has a winning formula and it’s that formula that has caught the eye of several major-label acts producing tracks for such artists as Bad Boy Records/Swagg Team Entertainment’s Yung Joc and Hot Stylz. Naturally, JAHARI XL is continuously growing as a producer. He recently completed production on a new Chicago artist named BRILL who also collaborates with Jahari on other projects. “This Brill project is definitely gonna surprise some people who maybe love what I did with Leggins and Heels cause it’s a little different. I mean, this one definitely broadened my skill set and shows how versatile I am. It’ll hit in the dance clubs for sure.†But JAHARI XL keeps working and is always looking for that next challenging project. He continues to work with Chicago artists, Squad One and Jay Stonez, but is also looking for that next big opportunity. His mother and father brought him up to be determined. His father, Perry Allen Wilson Sr. is one of the most sought after drummers in the music industry and has toured with Sonny Rollins, The Temptations, The O’Jay’s, Curtis Mayfield, The Crusaders, and Miles Davis to name a few. All of which were early influences of Jahari’s drumming style and musical abilities.
JAHARI XL took after his father and began playing drums for his church choir and in fifth grade he began playing classical trumpet with the school band and that’s when his journey with music really began. It wasn’t long before he was introduced to hip-hop inspired by Method Man’s “Bring the Painâ€. “I wanted to be a rapper after that. So I started writing poetry teaching myself how to construct a song. Then my mother bought me a DJX keyboard and I was able to teach myself how to sequence a beat and write lyrics around the sequence.â€
JAHARI XL is also working with a few long-time friends on developing a viable production company called Baller Status Click/Blue Collar Music. At this pace, JAHARI XL, has no plans of leaving the music business. In fact, he’s in the process of building a fresh new brand of creativity built on a solid foundation of talent. The sky is really the limit.
