Kwabi D.â„¢ The Lover Boy

About Me

West African Born! North American Raised!
Novel, diligent and tenacious are three words that rightfully describe Urban-Soul-Rock vocalist and song writer, Kwabi D. His music and smooth poetic style centres on love, life and relationships from both objective, and personal standpoints. It’s clear why he’s earned himself the nicknames, “Lover Boy” and “Mr. Serenade”.
Born in Ghana and raised in Scarborough, Kwabi D continues to guide a creativity that surpasses the limits of today’s music through a craft that knows no boundaries. The passion of that craft is evident each and every time Kwabi takes the stage and though it’s clear of the degree of his talent, it is his self-direction, his drive for what he loves that strikes audiences.
With several notable performances and collaborations already under his belt, Kwabi D has begun to pave his way through Canada’s developing urban music scene. He’s rocked crowds alongside Canadian artists, JD Era and Dru (former member of R&B group In Essence) and has opened for international artists, 2Face Idibia and Ofori Amponsah. He’s performed in New York State for its Ghana Fest and has recently featured in Canadian Hip Hop artist, Erik Flowchild’s debut music video, “Over Here”. Kwabi D also continues to contribute to local shows such as the recent fundraising showcase, “Take Off” at Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School.
Now what’s interesting is the wide array of talent the young artist possesses and displays while he’s away from the mic, where Kwabi D’s ability to act and dance has led him to numerous stage-plays and musical productions. This former Ryerson University Theatre student appeared in the 2009, MMVA’s in a humorous sketch reflecting the award show’s “Get Naked” theme. He’s performed alongside CP24's Matt Babel in the stage play, “Secrets of a Black Boy”, created by Darren Anthony, brother of comedian, actress, producer and playwright, Trey Anthony. Additionally, K.D has had the pleasure of blessing the stage alongside Ray Robinson, soulful member of the production company and record label, Black Jays in the musical production, “A Christmas Reunion”.
Presently Kwabi D is working on his EP and following that, his debut album for which he'll be collaborating with several artists and producers including King Jammy, a pioneer and legend in reggae-dancehall production. The EP which listeners should keep on the lookout for features the single, “My City (T.O Anthem)” which will also be featured on DJ Green Lantern’s Monster Mash 4 Mixtape, dropping this summer, July 4th.
K.D is involved in several projects and has contributed to many others but this young artist is only getting started. Because of his versatility in music styles and interests, Kwabi D’s future endeavours in fashion and playwright are only a couple of the fields he plans to experiment in.
"I Know I have a talent and I do what I do well because once I'm given that one chance, I don't intend on being stopped. I will be that unexpected element just as I was that unexpected child that forced his way into this world, and yes I am here to stay!"
