About Me

Thomas Jefferson named the ground sloth Megalonyx because he, and others, thought it was a nasty carnivore not unlike zee tiger. With more than 200 years to tell the story of the Megalonyx and Mastodon, among a fine menagerie of Pleistocene animals now long gone, you would think we could get the story straight. Well we, the royal we man (as scientists of many different brands), typically only look at history to write the first page of our articles, and fail to understand how and why we know what we think we know. Don't accept a writers summary of history just because you like their writing..Go look at original sources and discover them for yourself.Anyway, lots more to come regarding Jefferson, mastodons, sloths, and other stories of history and archaeology that don't get told loud enough or often enough....

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Gone: Edgar Billings Howard- Dug Clovis, NM Paleoindian site (among others) in 1930's. Andre Fabry- came to New Orleans in 1736, fought Chocktaw, 1738 in Montreal, brought help down the rivers to fight Chocktaw again in 1739-40, in 1741 tried to make it overland to Sante Fe, NM....You wouldn't want to drive his trips in a car today. Jefferson- anyone who fills the Whitehouse with mastodon bones and chains a live grizzly up on the front lawn can't be all bad- ooh yeah, and all that other stuff he did!
