Yamira is a singer/songwriter who believes in making a difference through music.
Yamira says, 'I want to be of good use to society and make a difference. Let me be an instrument of your peace.'
A native of the paradise island of Puerto Rico, Yamira was born with music in her soul. She learned to play guitar and piano at a very early age and as a young child entertained friends and family at social events and school gatherings. Music influenced Yamira in other ways as well. To fully express her artistic aspirations Yamira learned many forms of dance including Spanish, ballet, modern, Latin and jazz. Yamira believes music and dance centre the spirit. She says, 'tuning into music enables people to forget their problems and heartaches and feel much better about their lives.' Yamira takes this advice to heart and has applied it successfully to her own life.
After graduating from Emerson College in Boston with a BFA major she decided to go to NYC to pursue her artistic goals. Not long afterwards she was signed to an international deal with Polygram records as Fenix. For her first album Yamira/Fenix recorded cover songs with a dance beat. The album was released internationally and Yamira promoted it with many radio and TV interviews and presentations. Yamira also toured in Mexico City, Brazil and Puerto Rico. The record was well received throughout Latin America but was most successful in Mexico where it hit the top of the club charts with The Tiki Taka song!
Yamira moved to Sony/Epic records where she released her second album, Fenix, this time with some of her original compositions and more of a World music sound. Sony promoted it mostly in Latin American countries casting Yamira as a Latin artist from America singing in English. This strategy worked well and Yamira gained a loyal fanbase across Latin America.
For her third release Yamira's goal was to focus exclusively on original compositions and find her own path independently. She achieved this by collaborating with top producers such as Merco Monardo, Jose Gallegos and Javier Garza to produce her third album, 'Live Your Dreams!' which she released through the Internet and promoted herself.
Since Yamira has never officially been promoted in the US she is now eager to finally create her own US release. She has partnered with a very talented team to produce an exciting new album of completely original material called 'Tao.' Tao is a commercial pop album produced, arranged and co-written by the talented Ron Zabrocki. Yamira is very excited about this album and feels it truly expresses her musical identity. She is confident that people here at home will accept her and embrace her music like their own. Yamira is ready to bring wonderful concerts and entertainment to her fans and is capable of ensuring that everyone goes home fulfilled and satisfied with an inspiring musical experience. Tao will be released in the Fall, 2006.
