DJ DFunk

I’ve been DJing for about 12 years now. I started out just watching my bud DJ Serch mixing it up at his house or at the club he worked at....Cash’s in Ft Walton Beach, FL. I asked him if he’d show me how to do that and he explained the basics to me and I was practicing every night at his club before they opened or at his house. After about a year of this he asked me if I wanted to DJ an entire night at Cash’s. That was my first gig. Cash’s Faux Pas, Spring Break 1995. I loved it, I was hooked. I was then given a few more nights a week to DJ on my own. Mostly the slower nights but I didn’t care one bit. By the winter that year I was DJing full time at one of Cash’s clubs in Crestview, FL. One day I got a wild hair sold all my DJ equipment and joined the U.S. Army. I was stationed at Ft Campbell, KY. I got back into DJing while there and got a gig at the Music City Mix Factory in Nashville, TN. Nothing special, just a night here and there. Mostly I was DJing parties for the guys in my unit, and making tapes….yeah tapes for people. When it came time for reenlistment, I decided to get out and come back to Florida. Serch had me lined up back at Cash’s in Ft Walton Beach. The current DJ there was DJ Penny Ray and he was on orders to Korea so the job was mine. Well, his orders were cancelled so he stayed, but we were both the resident DJ’s there. I’m always looking for other gigs though. I play anything but my two main types are hip-hop and breakbeat.
