Recording Artist Demmi and the Dead Fish Reality Project
In the fall of 2006, a new television sensation is preparing to hit the streets. A young modern day renaissance woman by the name of Demmi is in the process of shooting a new reality television show entitled Dead Fish, which is sure to change the way you view reality television. With the media blitz on reality TV right now with shows such as Americas Next Top Model, Making the Band, Survivor, and a host of othersnever has a show like Dead Fish been done. What makes it unique? It is a gospel reality show that takes 5 independent recording artists (some gospel and some not) to come together to work on a church mission project aimed at making the Dallas community a better place. I had the privilege of sitting down with the executive producer of Dead Fish to tell us more about this project.
Harper: Whats up Demmi, tell me a little bit about yourself and how you got started in the music biz.
Demmi: Having performed for live audiences since the age of 6, it was inevitable that my career in music would continue to be fulfilled. Im all grown up now and venturing out as a solo artist- a lofty departure my days as one of the soprano members of God's Property, the triple platinum award winning group that featured, Kirk Franklin. However, it was my time with God's Property that I was afforded opportunities to plant my feet in the business which I did.
Harper: You were like the main video lead in the Stomp video, how did you become a member of Gods Property?
Demmi: Yes, it was crazy. The musical director of Gods Property, Robert Sput Searight II saw raw talent in me as I was a member in another community choir in the city. Sputs exact words was, You stick out like a sore thumb and youre whole style requires you to be with God Property.
Harper: How was it touring the country with a mega star like Kirk Franklin and what were some of your highlight performances that you can remember?

Ok, ok enough about the past. Tell us about Dead Fish.
Dead Fish is about a preachers daughter, who is tired of "church life" as it is. She steps away from the church to pursue her career as a solo artist. It is during this time she completes a stage play entitled, "Life of a Preacha." In order to feel the heart of the writer, she asks every actor in the cast to participate in her fathers ministry. Simultaneously her father observes her ambition, and offers her a record label of her own-only if she and her friends complete the tasks given to them. With the help of the Dead Fish Cast, the spotlight is now on this church and its great urban appeal. The star-studded congregation, and its glam fashion begin to outreach all over the metroplex.
Harper: Who are the cast members and where are they from?
Demmi: Rachel, Triston, Tae, Perreon, and Myself.
Harper: What did the name Dead Fish come from?
Demmi: "Dead Fish" describes the current state of many Christians. Many churches are filled to capacity with members (seat fillers), but only a small fraction of them actually serve as laborers in the ministry. "Alive Fish" swim with the current but Dead Fish float against the flow, lifeless and in the way. Their inactivity creates room for dissension, disharmony, and overall negativity. Without realizing, they become the dead weight of the church, hindering the growth of the vision. The goal of this show is to highlight the indifference of complacent Christians. Our viewers will be stimulated to no longer be Dead Fish, but serve in their respective communities and change the world, one fish at a time.
Harper: Wow, that sounds exciting, I cant wait to see the final product. You are currently filming now correct?
Demmi: Yes, we started filming back in April with an independent filming company called Dallas Gold Media Group.
Harper: When can we expect the product to be done and what are your plans when it is complete?
Demmi: Filming should be complete in October and we plan on shopping the pilot to major networks in hopes to have the show picked up for prime time by the end of the year.
Harper: Is there anything else you would like to mention about this project before we go?
Demmi: Yes, we are also releasing a soundtrack to the Dead Fish Reality Project also scheduled for release in October. The tracks are blazing and the album consists of solo projects and a few collaborations with the five artists. It was produced by super producer Leon Legacy Lacey out of New York.
Harper: Where will we be able to purchase the album?
Demmi: We are currently looking for a distribution deal.
Harper: One last question, tell me about this traveling concert that will take place in Dallas on 29th. This is open to the public and people can actually be apart of the taping correct?
Demmi: I am really excited about the Dead Fish episode where we plan on doing three live concerts in one day throughout the Dallas area.Dead Fish Unplugged Concert is the ultimate outdoor entertainment experience where the 5 Dead Fish Cast Members perform. Live music and fashion meets the runway at the same time. Similar to BET Spring Bling or Rip the Runway. This brings the secular community back to awareness of the lack of positive guidance in the community as well as exposing local hot talent, clothing designers, artist, performers, and businesses.
