OHM

Ohm, real name Bjarnar Jonsson, is a veteran within the Icelandic electronic music scene and has 12 years of dj-ing under his belt. In 1999 the legendary Force Inc. label put out his first release ever, the 'Sameining EP', which Ohm produced with his good friend and techno-genius EXOS. The sound of the EP was said to be a crossover between SURGEON and OLIVER HO and was extensively praised by djs around the world, particularly in Germany and USA. After the success of this release, the collaboration between EXOS and OHM continued and together they produced some of the funkiest and most interesting dance-floor-friendly material heard for a long time. These releases included a follow-up EP on Force Inc and 2 amazing EPs on the Icelandic TISSJU label (sub-label of critically acclaimed THULE RECORDS, which often is referred to as BASIC CHANNEL of the north). Because of OHM's unique style, it's hard to label his music but you can definitely hear influences from hip hop, drum and bass, dub and of course classic minimal techno. OHM's signature sounds are playful tribal grooves, ruff basslines, smoked out sounds flying around, morphing vocal stabs, with drum-and-bass-style-crowd-pleasing-breaks. He tries hard not to be limited to any specific formulas and manages in that way to successfully create his own distinctive sound. Constantly evolving his production skills and questioning the things around him, OHM says: "things aren't weird enough!". OHM is probably one of the few artists that you've heard warping bits of vocals from pop-sluts like TORI AMOS and MADONNA, and make their voices melt smoothly with dubby sound-scapes and broken beats. Nothing is sacred to this man and he will sample anything and get away with it! Not only is OHM working on his new solo-material but also continues collaborating with other artists, such as TORUL V (THULE/FORCE INC.) from Slovenia, fellow Icelander OZY (THULE/FORCE INC./TRAPEZ) and Danish superstar BJORN SVIN. Forthcoming releases by OHM include a shared EP release with BJORN SVIN, called 'Useless Salvation' and a "12-in" on a brand new label in Copenhagen called REALLER. After performing at almost every club imaginable in Reykjavik (Iceland) and rocking a handful of super-trendy clubs in Copenhagen (where he now lives), OHM is ready to take things further. He's been working on a live-set, fit to turn any club up-side-down and warp the minds of young people around the world.
