In a shooting early Sunday, Robert H. Benjamin Jr., 25, of Oakland, was shot following a confrontation with someone on the sidewalk. Police believe the altercation stemmed from an earlier problem with the suspect. Police said the shooting took place between a parked Lexus and a parking lot in the 300 block of 14th Street between Franklin and Webster streets shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday.
Basa said the victim had just left a nearby nightclub when he was shot. There is no indication that problems inside the club led to the shooting outside, police said.
No arrests had been made Sunday afternoon. Police officers, who were driving less than a block away, heard the gunfire but by the time they got tothe scene the suspects had fled, Basa said.
