"Over the past 15 years one government funded body has invested $935 million dollars of Australian taxpayers money into one particular industry
The return........ $266 million
IS ANYONE ACCOUNTABLE?"
The Industry is a dark drama inspired by the simple and age-old fact that local talent in both the filmmaking fields of cast and crew only ever receive accolades or recognition and ownership in this country after making a name for themselves overseas. Reflecting the current and declining state of the Australian film industry this short movie itself deteriorates in visual quality over its 6 minute running time.
Tony wants to know why millions of dollars are constantly sunk into the same style of "Aussie" beer guzzling around the bbq-farting films that consistently loose money at the box office while genre filmmakers are not only ignored but shunned. Who is accountable for such ridiculous and repeated decisions? Johnny-come-lately attitudes to genre and art-house films already made with outside or private funding is just not good enough.
The Industry Is written by by filmmaker Kelly Dolen and comedic actor John Barresi. Kelly also directs The Industry which is filmed by long term friend, cohort and award winning cinematographer Dennys Ilic. Shot freehand on the new genereation of HD hand-held cameras, the film begins with a frantic pacing which only builds as "Tony" becomes more aggrivated. This film once again shows that actors with a background in comedy prove to be excellent in dramatic roles
