SOCIAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT10:30 - 26 December 2007As pub singalongs go, it was pretty special.Regulars at the Black Horse, in Leicester's West End, were given a night to remember when Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan led an impromptu late-night performance of the Beatles' classic Hey Jude.Tom, who had nipped in for a few drinks with a couple of friends, could not resist the chance to join singer Tara Simms, who was performing there on the night.Tara, from Aylestone, Leicester, said: "We'd all had a good night and I was doing my last song when one of his mates came up to me and said 'Tom from Kasabian wants to do a song with you'. He has a real frontman swagger about him."He came up to the front of the pub with his hands in his pockets and said 'do you know any Beatles tunes?'. I'd played Hey Jude earlier in the evening so I suggested we did that."I had to prompt him a couple of times on the words, but it worked out really well."It's a perfect song for the end of the night because everyone knows it and can sing along."It was absolutely brilliant, it was completely spontaneous and left everyone on a real high."To be honest I don't know too much about Kasabian - apart from the fact they've sold millions of records."I didn't know who he was at first. I was playing an Oasis tune when he came in with a couple of his mates."I noticed them and thought 'they look like a band' but didn't think any more of it."They stayed around afterwards for a drink and he was really nice, he didn't act like a big rock star at all."Kasabian members, who hail from Blaby and Countesthorpe, have piled success upon success in 2007, releasing their second album, Empire, to acclaim and touring internationally.Black Horse landlord Phil Gomersall said: "He was standing at the bar with a couple of mates, knocking back sambucas. Funnily enough, I don't think that many people had recognised him."The next thing I knew he was up at the front on the microphone singing Hey Jude. People couldn't believe what they were seeing and they were all singing along with him and trying to get pictures on their phones. We're really keen to hear from young bands who want to play here, but we'd never expect to see someone like this playing in the front bar."When they'd finished the song everyone was robbing beermats and getting his autograph, I've never seen anything like it down here."Check out my music pages - www.myspace.com/guitararocks and www.myspace.com/braveandcrazyuk
