I am a bookseller by trade and have been in the business since 1989. This business had taught me so much about history, literature, repairing, selling and appraising all kinds of books. Also I had an opportunity to work for 10 years in a specialty store that sold books, maps and documents about Nevada and the West (I lived in Las Vegas for 15 years!) ... which will forever be one of my favorite jobs. Besides selling old books and unique pieces of history, I had an opportunity to archive a few fabulous collections of material:
* World War I & World War II propaganda posters
* Josephine Spinedi’s original drawings and costume sketches for early Las Vegas mini-revues & shows (now part of UNLV's Special Collections)
* A large lot of early 1900's (thru 1950s) glass plate negatives & photographs
* All kinds of booklets and paper ephemera, early advertising material, etc..
* Several private collections of Mining, Geology, Hydrology and Engineering volumes
However, my most memorable project was assembling and archiving a huge collection of rare Union Pacific Railroad documents (approximately 300,000 pieces of correspondence, company files and 5,000 original drawings & blueprints) which now resides in the Special Collections Department at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Several samples of the blueprints & correspondence I catalogued are currently used on the UNLV Early Las Vegas Digital Collection web page. This collection covers the period circa 1900-1965 - it's important because it documents the early days of Las Vegas and records of the Las Vegas Land and Water Company, a subsidiary of the railroad. Collectively these organizations developed the city of Las Vegas.
