Mark A. Kukalis
East Vandergrift
Mark A. Kukalis, 47, of East Vandergrift, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, in his residence. He was born June 12, 1959, in Natrona Heights to Bernadine Voyten Kukalis, of East Vandergrift, and the late George J. Kukalis, who died in 2002. Mark served in the Navy, Special Forces from 1978 to 1981, was a welder/fabricator for Alle-Kiski Industries, Hyde Park, and had been employed by the AEBCO Corp. and Virginia Beach Shipyards, Norfolk, Va. Mark lived in Virginia Beach, Va., for 17 years before returning to East Vandergrift in August 2005. He graduated from Kiski Area High School in 1978 and was a member of the Lithuanian Club, of which he was vice president, and the Slovak Club, both East Vandergrift, and the VFW, Vandergrift. He enjoyed paintball, in which he participated on professional teams; hunting, and fishing. He was an avid Steelers fan and a volunteer with Girl Scouts Council Colonial Coast, Virginia Beach. Also surviving are his wife, Debra Lynn Lichtenwalner Kukalis; daughter, Tiffani Danielle Kukalis, of East Vandergrift; son, Joshua Kukalis, of Clovis, Calif.; grandchildren, Joshua Jr. and Isabella Kukalis; brother, John (Sonya) Kukalis, of Murrysville; sisters, Vickie Kukalis, of White Oak, and Robin (David) Klimke, of Latrobe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also was predeceased by maternal grandparents John and Helen Voyten and paternal grandparents Julius and Matilda Kukalis. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, East Vandergrift, with the Rev. Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Interment with military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will be in Vandergrift Cemetery.
