Hey, I am a DJ who has been in the Brit Asian music scene since the early 80's.
Currently I am working on my album, due for release Autumn 2010.
You can catch me hosting my Bollywood club night BollyParty every Friday @ Cafe Chai, Ealing, Kuch Kuch (the biggest bollywood club night in europe) last Saturday of the month @ The Livery, London.
SAN-J SANJ TIME LINE:
1979 - Seeing DJ's at a relative’s party, I made my mind up that I wanted to be a DJ.
1981 - Spun the decks for the first time under the wings of Nytro Express.
1982 - Officially Started DJ'ing, mentored by Pete Anderson (Nytro Express).
1984 - Launched XZECUTIVE SOUNDZ and started promoting my own events. December co-promoted the first ever Daytimer gig in Southall under the name of Senator Promotions.
1985 - The daytime scene was gearing up speed, hosted many events also co-launched ONYX PROMOTIONS, we held regular Break-dance competitions and sponsored our own crew - The Onyx All-stars, they would challenge crews from around London at Brunel Uni.
1986 - Club Residency in France, Belgium and Luxembourg for 6 months.
1987 - Returned from Europe, took the daytimer scene up North to Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.
1989 - Released the first ever 12" single by a Brit Asian DJ, titled Xzecutive. Launched VA-WAH Recordings. Supplied music and also featured in Gurinder Chadas first film a rock -u- mentary on the Brit-Asian music scene - I’m British But..
1990 - Signed onto Multitone Records to remix their back catalogue. Released EXTRA HOT 1 plus the first ever Bollywood remix album GARMA GARAM 1.
1991 - Released EXTRA HOT 3 and 5 + GARMA GARAM 2. Joined Star Sound radio to present drive time show.
1992 - Released EXTRA HOT 7 Tours in Germany and Canada.
1993 - Tours in Canada, USA, Austria.
1994 - Released BHANGRA HOT CUTS 3 and EXTRA HOT 10. Tours in CANADA
1995 - Released BOMBASS. Tours in Canada and India.
1997 - Tour in Spain.
1999 - Launched the first ever Bollywood club night - Escapizm.
2000 - Presented shows on Westside Radio. Became resident DJ at Kuch Kuch Nights.
2001 - Presented shows on BBA Radio and joined Club Asia Radio
2002 - Assisted with the Ricky Reel Campaign and instigated the compilation album, artistes featured were VR1-(Rishi Rich), Earthtribe, ADF, Taz-Stereo Nation, Shahin Badar and more.
2003 - Joined BBC Asian Network to present and did a short stint on Star FM.
2005 - Rejoined Club Asia and launched 3 club nights - KHEL, DROP IT LIKE IT's GARAM and 2WICE AS SPICE. Chosen as the London champion for the exhibition Soho Road to Punjab.
2006 - Tours in Spain, India and Canary Islands.
2007 - Launched Soho Road to Punjab Exhibition at S.O.A.S - 17TH July. Exhibition detailing the history of Bhangra in the U.K. and what part I played in pioneering the remix and club scene.
Launched new Bolly Night RENDEZ -VOUS.
2008 - Nov: Left Club Asia
2009 - Re Branded Rendez-Vous club night to BollyParty. Album 50% complete with one song to be featured in a British film out 2010.
