About Me

Sweet friends! Thanks for stopping by. Well, I was born in 1971 in Dalton,Ga and spent most of my childhood there. My family moved to my parent’s hometown of Fort Payne, AL. midway through high school when my grandparents became ill. I won’t bore you with all of the details but I think where you have been is important, at least it is to me.For the last ten years I have been playing Lead Guitar and Singing in the Americana band, The Skeeters. It has been a wonderful ride. I am not famous by any stretch and I never set out to be. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting many great people and through music I have made some awesome friends. While playing with The Skeeters I have had the honor of touring and playing with some of the greatest artists of our time. Some of them are, Willie Nelson, Drive By Truckers, Robert Earl Keen, Shooter Jennings, Junior Brown, Billy Joe Shaver, Government Mule, Toby Keith, Gretchen Wilson, Vassar Clements, Tony Rice, Larry Keel, Pat Green, Goose Creek Symphony and many more. The Skeeters have made two records with the legendary Capricorn producer Johnny Sandlin (Producer of, The Allman Brothers Band, Widespread Panic, etc.) Johnny has become one of the best friends I ever had and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to know him. We have traveled from coast to coast playing theaters, bars, music halls, and coliseums. I have loved it all, and I have done it with three of the best musicians that there have ever been. Listen to the music of The Skeeters on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 63 Outlaw Country. Send them an email and request your favorite song. You may order our records at http://www.theskeeters.com.My wife Jolie and I were married in 1995 and since then we have had three beautiful children; Hope, Hannah and Sonny. In March of 2007 we suddenly lost our 9 year old daughter Hannah to a brain aneurysm. It has been a dreadfully heartbreaking time for us. She was such a beautiful soul and there are no words for how much her Mother, Brother, Sister and I love and miss her. I have made the decision in the last few months to stop traveling and have left The Skeeters. I still plan to write and record music in the future and maybe play live from time to time but I need to be with my wife and children. I have no regrets. I was a good Daddy to Hannah and am thankful that God trusted me enough to guide her through her wonderful life. She was and is God’s child.I am an avid reader and history buff. I have a fascination with The American Civil War and enjoy relic hunting and research. I collect Indian Points around North Alabama and love antiquing. It always gives me great joy to hear from people whom I have met and known over the years. Whether we played football together in our youth or sang in the choir together it does not matter. I never forget and would love to hear from you. So give me a shout. As always I love you and wish you the best that this world has to offer.Matt
