An underground hip hop artist from Massachusetts, the WID is one of the most promising new voices to have come out of the Boston area in the past few years. The wide range of lyrical subject matter, from the political to the party starters to the personal, is tied together with an unmistakable and unique style. Complex rhyme structures and impressive wordplay are delivered with a rhythmic, spit fire flow. The combination of thought provoking lyrics and some of the best hooks to be heard in the underground scene, the WID is must listen material to anyone who wants to hear one of the most unique voices in hip hop today.
Though ultimately the WID's music is entirely his own, he draws from a wide range of influences. The sound is grounded in the hip hop of the 90s, but it is mixed with the style and substance that is found in the alternative hip hop of today. In the spirit of artists like Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, De La Soul, Wu Tang, Run DMC, and KRS-One, the WID is not confined to subject matter that panders to the perceptions of what hip hop is supposed to be. The delivery is more akin to artists like Big Pun, Treach from Naughty by Nature, Eminem and Lupe Fiasco. And the music and lyrics have been compared to Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, Kanye West and El-P.
