My name is Yolie Cerda. Let me share with you my three point platform in my candidacy for Santa Paula Union High School Board of Trustees:
First of all, in my estimation, the Santa Paula Union High School District needs to become more connected with the community; so the community in turn, may play a more supportive role, especially toward helping young people stake out their careers and their futures. I talk with a lot of people and what I often hear regarding the youth is that the people of our community want to familiarize themselves better with the SPUHS District, its teachers, and its staff.
Secondly, during this budget crunch I intend to play a very key role in obtaining new monies and or resources to better ground our high school district, its staff, and its students. The high school is the heart of the community and I feel that we, as a community, have neglected our young as a whole, myself included. It is time to get that heart pulsating with clean, fresh blood because we have A LOT of resources, and a lot of sharp and talented leaders in our community.
Thirdly, I want to see the business community more actively involved in the teaching, training and mentoring of our local students. Many students do not have healthy adult role models by which to pattern themselves after, but with a little time and patience we can equip an entire army to seize its future.
I have been a member of the glorious Santa Paula community for 15 years. SP is my home; I LOVE this community and I’m very proud to be a part of it.
I have five children who are very well enmeshed in this school system. They are part of the reason for which I’m running for office; I may as well, since I’m at the schools all the time anyway.
SP is filled with a lot of wonderful young people who deserve a well run, efficient school board. Let the members of the board be trustworthy, honorable, of utmost integrity, amiable and willing to work hard on behalf of our students in the SP Union High School District. Thank you for your vote on my behalf.
