I am here for Friends

About Me

I try to care about a lot, esp. nature and people who need some help. I like to think i'm a kind, patient and caring person (maybe sometimes a little too much it seems). I also like a good conversation, having fun and my friends say I can listen well. Anyway, you're free to ask about me and i'll be glad to answer... ;-)In memory of "Crazy Diamond", Roger Keith (Syd) Barrett (6 januari 1946 - 7 juli 2006); shine on Syd! And that's exactly what Pink Floyd managed to do. PS: and that includes the contribution of David Gilmour (to say the least), who so often had to deal with injust criticism. In memory of Richard "Rick" Wright (28 July 1943 – 15 September 2008); the "Great Gig" was without doubt one of his own masterpieces..."Peter Gabriel - Mercy Street" // / "looking down on empty streets, all she can see / are the dreams all made solid / are the dreams all made real / / all of the buildings, all of those cars / were once just a dream / in somebody's head / / she pictures the broken glass, she pictures the steam / she pictures a soul / with no leak at the seam / / let's take the boat out / wait until darkness / let's take the boat out / wait until darkness comes / / nowhere in the corridors of pale green and grey / nowhere in the suburbs / in the cold light of day / there in the midst of it so alive and alone / words support like bone / / dreaming of mercy street / wear your inside out / dreaming of mercy / in your daddy's arms again / dreaming of mercy street / 'swear they moved that sign / dreaming of mercy / in your daddy's arms / / pulling out the papers from the drawers that slide smooth / tugging at the darkness, word upon word /confessing all the secret things in the warm velvet box / to the priest-he's the doctor / he can handle the shocks / / dreaming of the tenderness-the tremble in the hips / of kissing Mary's lips / / dreaming of mercy street / wear your insides out / dreaming of mercy / in your daddy's arms again / dreaming of mercy street / 'swear they moved that sign / looking for mercy / in your daddy's arms / / mercy, mercy, looking for mercy / mercy, mercy, looking for mercy / / Anne, with her father is out in the boat / riding the water / riding the waves on the sea" / / / / / / / Some songs tend to have a kind of special "moving" touch, as f.i. John Lennon's "Imagine" or Neil Young's "Heart of Gold". I felt the same about this song from the first time i heard it and each time I hear it I still get overwhelmed by it, sending shivers down my spine. This song was written for Anne Sexton, a severely depressed poet who wrote as a form of therapy rather than for an audience. The lyrics by Peter Gabriel, a true art-loving person, actually incorporate ideas from Anne's own poems '45 Mercy Street' and 'For the Year of the Insane' ("kissing Mary's lips" maybe a reference to her mother, Mary. Anne always felt her mother did not love her enough and thus she had her own fears about being a mother. All her life she sought that safe place she lacked early on: Mercy Street...) as well as her book of poetry 'The Awful Rowing Toward God' (the idea of taking a boat to the sea). The end of the song can be very intense during live shows, when Gabriel uses a high-pitched wail to simulate Sexton's death (Anne eventually succeeded in one of her suicide attempts, which are nearly always a cry for help). Anyway, this is one of the most moving tributes ever paid to a poet by a rock musician; and it shows that in rockmusic sometimes "there's more to the picture than meets the eye" (Neil Young). PS: Thanx for some of this info by cea796, malek3000 & klotylda.David Gilmour playing High Hopes during the Meltdown Concert on 22/06/2001 at the Royal Festival Hall, London, UK; OK, i've put "yet another (Floyd-)movie" here, this one as a token of appreciation for someone who's recently become a very dear and precious friend; and of course because it like it so much myself ;), as i think it's perhaps (?!) the best Floyd-song off what one might call PF's "Gilmour-era"; so, if you feel like it, sit back and enjoy David's "hearth-melting" version; if you'd happen not to have heard this version before, being from outer-space or just not such a Floyd fan, no offence meant btw ;-), you might kind of find yourself a bit "At a higher altitude with flag unfurled" & at "the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world!" ;). Still, if you already know this one by hearth, you can easily listen again and again, 'cause aren't we all: "Encumbered forever by desire and ambition / There's a hunger still unsatisfied / Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon / go down this road we've been so many times..." (Gimour, Samson). But, never mind all that: i just hope you'll enjoy this one as much as i and probably most Floyd-fans do :-).

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

new friends; peacefull, good minded people, from all ages, cultures, religions, even with other points of view, who like to discuss about "good" (rock)music, nature, and various other topics that might interrest you and me...; only one "condition": to be open minded (thus not "extreme or fundamentalistic" and/or unwilling to discuss).Pink Floyd - Echoes, played "live" at Pompeï (because of the length, cut in two parts); hear and see a splendid performance of the real number one in rockmusic history (by the best rock group ever); besides, when you visit the archaeological site (which i did) it really feels as if this song was written for the atmosphere you can feel there... and strangly (?) there are also some passages in the lyrics which kind of "support" this feeling, as f.i.: "...The echo of a distant tide, comes willowing across the sand..."
