About Me

FROM AN EARLY AGE IT WAS INEVITABLE THAT SHAWNA THOMPSON WOULD BE ON THE STAGE. A REQUEST FOR A HAND HELD TAPE RECORDER AT AGE 4 SO SHE COULD RECORD HER "OWN MUSIC" WOULD BE THE FIRST THING ANY FAMILY MEMBER WOULD TELL YOU WHEN ASKED WHAT THEY REMEMBER MOST ABOUT HER CHILDHOOD. AND THE FIRST SONG SHE RECORDED? "COMING HOME" WITH HER DAD STRUMMING THE BANJO AS HER BACKGROUND MUSIC- IN THE KITCHEN OF COURSE. THIS WOULD ALSO BE THE FIRST SONG SHE PERFORMED IN PUBLIC MONTHS LATER ONE SUNDAY MORNING IN CHURCH. THE OTHER MEMORY WOULD BE THE ALABAMA CONCERT SHE ATTENDED SITTING ON THE FRONT ROW AND LATER STANDING IN LINE FOR WHAT SEEMED HOURS JUST TO GIVE RANDY OWEN A KISS ON THE CHEEK. RAISED TO APPRECIATE GREAT MUSIC, SHE SPENT HOURS LISTENING TO ALABAMA, MERLE HAGGARD, REBA MCINTIRE, SHELBY LYNN, ETTA JAMES AND PATTY LOVELESS- ALL OF WHICH CONTINUE TO INFLUNCE HER TODAY.BORN IN LAUREL, MISSISSIPPI AND RAISED IN LATON HILL, ALABAMA A SLEEPY SUBURB OF ABOUT 800 PEOPLE JUST OUTSIDE OF CHATOM, ALABAMA, POPULATION 1200, SHAWNA BECAME MORE INVOLVED IN MUSIC AS SHE GREW OLDER. SHE WAS THE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL DRUM MAJOR AND BESIDES SINGING IN CHUSRCH,SANG MUSIC WITH HER DAD'S LOCAL BAND. AS HE SENSED SHE WAS OUT GROWING THAT, HE PUT TOGETHER A BAND FOR HER THAT PLAYED ALL OVER SOUTH ALABAMA. AT THE AGE OF 18, SHE PACKED HER BAGS AND MOVED TO NASHVILLE WHERE SHE FOUND WORK SINGING DEMOS AND SINGING IN THE LOCAL CLUBS ON BROADWAY. ALONG THE WAY , SHE MET AND MARRIED HER HUSBAND MUSICIAN KEIFER THOMPSON AND THE RESIDE JUST OUTSIDE OF NASHVILLE.WORKING WITH TY HERNDON FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS AND GAINING EXPERIENCE AT LIFE ON THE ROAD- SHAWNA HAS STARTED TO WORK TOWARDS THE GOAL OF HER OWN RECORDING DEAL HERE IN NASHVILLE...
