The Peyote Cowboys

About Me

Formed in late 1984, The Peyote Cowboys one of the most loved and misunderstood bands in Dallas in the mid 1980's. Jeff Holinski the vocalist, was the brainchild of the name and soon recruited roomate Murry Hammond on guitar, Scott Stevens (ex-Butthole Surfers) on guitar, Brad Featherstone, who also played with Holinski in a early dallas punk band, The Militants, on bass and close friend Lorna Hicks on drums. The Peyote Cowboys soon fell into favor with many Dallas clubs such as Theatre Gallery, The Twilite Room and the 500x. The band soon found itself opening for the very acts they admired such as The Meat Puppets, the Butthole Surfers, the Flaming Lips, Redd Kross, Husker Du and many others. In Late 1986, due to personal differences,, Holinski and Stevens left the band, leaving the Cowboys as a three piece and a different sound, which alienated some people, but drew new fans as well. The only recording the band ever made is represented here in mp3 form. Countless other songs were never recorded.. IN late 1987, the band offically called it quits. Guitarist Hammond, formed the Sleepy Heroes with Rhett Miller and eventually went on to form the Old 97's. Stevens moved to Austin to continue his art. Brad's claiim to fame in Dallas came when he was lucky to film Nirvana at the legendary tree's concert in oct 1991. He also played in countless other bands such as B.A.G., The Modern Whigs and Sofa Kingdom, and eventaully moved to Chicago in early 1992. In Late 2002, singer Jeff Holinski died. He had been living and working in San Francisco since 1988. He will missed very much by the members of the band. Reunions have been talked about, but nothing has come to fruition. You never know........
