Love is a word. A body without a soul…until the activities of a one whose proclamation is love breathes life into the form, it actually does not mean anything. However, once the shell is filled with substance, the new life, the new love must be nurtured, protected and raised much in the manner parents would raise a child. When Love is not handled with the proper care, people are left with false ideas about the nature of Love. A false idea/belief about Love will manifest in all facets of life. One who has been scarred by the perpetuated misunderstandings may shut out the possibility for Love to manifest for and/or through them by establishing walls between themselves and the world. The walls are said to be for protection and security. The question that the Love Back to Life Tour asks is; are the walls keeping the potential of suffering out or holding the misery in?
The 137: Love Back to Life Tour http://www.myspace.com/137poetry was created by KaNikki Jakarta and Marquis Mix a.k.a. 13 of Nazareth, a couple married to each other for life as well as to the art of poetry. The tour assess this issue from the male and female perspectives through the art of spoken-word. In addition, the artists set out to reinforce the spirit of Love after witnessing first hand love bashing in poetry venues by those who obviously have been hurt by someone(s) who had misunderstandings about Love as all people do at some point in their lives. The poets do not claim to have your answers but their own and hopefully the poems can be a compass of sorts for those having difficulty navigating the love-scape.
On the date of the first scheduled out of town performance, Marquis had several seizures. He and KaNikki spent the morning in the hospital and missed the flight to Vegas. Subsequently the two decided to expand the intent of the tour to include promoting the awareness of Epilepsy with which Marquis (13) was diagnosed in October of 1994. There are 2.3 million* people in the United States who have been diagnosed with Epilepsy and 50 million around the world, but due to the fears surrounding the neurological disorder many of them suffer in silence.

KaNikki Jakarta – Affectionately known as KaNikki J., she is a poet/author with a spoken word cd, two collections of poetry, and two best selling novels. In addition, she has a soap opera series in Experience Reality magazine under her quill. KaNikki’s debut novel, In Real Life, gained her a nomination for Cush City ’s Best New Author Award while her poetry and community commitment secured her a nomination for Poet Laureate of the city of Alexandria . The soap opera series entitled Burning Bridges delves into the lives of characters from In Real Life’s highly anticipated third book of the series that she is currently working on.

In truth speaking before crowds for Marquis was tantamount to the fear of death but after trembling through his first poem and numerous seizures 13 was shocked to discover that behind the veil of great fears, great triumphs wait to be made. 13 of Nazareth is a great triumph over himself.
