About Me

Comma Press is a not-for-profit Manchester-based collective dedicated to saving the almost-moribund genre of the short story in Britain. We strive to discover, develop, publish and promote new writers venturing into the form, as well as established authors who haven’t been given the publishing opportunity to write short stories before. We are keen to use the full potential of podcast technology and the internet to reach a new, wider audience – in particular through our mp3 STORYBANK initiative.
Comma was founded by Ra Page, Sarah Eyre and Maria Crossan in 2004, to build on previous one-off projects like Manchester Stories - a series of A5 sized mini-anthologies published in conjunction with City Life magazine. By 2005, Comma Press had expanded operations to publish ‘City Shorts’ anthologies of Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle stories, and we have now published single author collections, like the acclaimed Under the Dam by David Constantine, themed and un-themed anthologies (Phobic - modern horror, ID - modern crime, etc), an annual ‘new author’ showcase (Bracket, Parenthesis) and the beginnings of a translation imprint (Decapolis: Tales from ten Cities). We also publish poetry (Joolz Denby, Gaia Holmes, Helen Clare, Ed Barton), and the occasional novel.
Comma is always looking for writers (of short stories in particular) and filmmakers interested in adapting them (and/or other poems). If you’re a writer or filmmaker get in touch with us. And take a butchers at our site:
