About Me
FGM Records is the record label arm of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and specializes in acoustic guitar music. Since 1997 we've released a yearly sampler CD of flatpicking music featuring the worlds top flatpicking guitar players. To date, weve release six of these samplers. In 2000 we also began releasing our own unique projects which have included the critically acclaimed "New Standards for Flatpicking Guitar", "DocFest: A tribute to Doc Watson and his musical partners Merle Watson and Jack Lawrence", "Flatpicking Favorites: Hot & Spicy", and "Song for Sophie: A Collings Collective."
In 2004 FGM Records also started releasing projects by individual artists and bands. To date have released solo projects by Brad Davis, John Carlini, John Jorgenson, Tim Stafford, Tim May, Mark Cosgrove, Jim Nunally & Dix Bruce, and Tyler Grant. These projects span the bluegrass, folk,Americana, acoustic jazz, singer/songwriter, and Gypsy jazz genres.
We have also released three concert DVD performances. The first was with David Grier, Kenny Smith, and Wyatt Rice. The second with Jim Hurst, Bryan Sutton, and Tim Stafford. The third featured Brad Davis, Tim May, and Cody Kilby.
In the future well continue to release new and innovative projects featuring various flatpicking guitar artists playing in a variety of configurations. Additionally, we will be releasing solo, duo, and band projects from some of the best acoustic guitar players in the industry. You can look forward to a wide variety of music CDs as well as performances on both DVD and VHS.
As with Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, FGM Records is looking to explore all the aspects of flatpicking - Gypsy jazz, old-time, newgrass, bluegrass, acoustic rock, Western swing, acoustic jazz, Celtic, folk, and whatever else we can find. We'll work on projects with many of the FGM columnists, the artists who have been featured in FGM, as well as new and emerging artists.
And if you're worried about our attention to the magazine, don't. FGM Records is the recording branch of the FGM tree. FGM is, and will continue to be, our instructional venue. FGM Records allows us to share visually and audibly the abundant talent of acoustical guitarists we've encountered during the past few years. And what continues to amaze us is that abundance: Folks, we've barely scratched the proverbial soundboard!
So feel free to browse and read and email us with your suggestions and ideas. Of course, we've got links to FGM and the ever-popular FGM Mercantile, so whichever site you choose to bookmark, you're never far away from one of the universe's best sources of information on the art and practice of flatpicking the acoustic guitar!
