Music is a given, as are movies. Aside from that, books, magazines, net surfing, psychology journals, video games...nothing too out of the ordinary. I hit golf balls, but have only played about 3 full games. I love mixing drinks, collecting cool alcohol glasses and bar tending paraphernalia, but I am far from a heavy drinker (alone). I tap things CONSTANTLY! Mostly my thighs, my chest, my steering wheel, my keys, kegs, sometimes even my drums, but exceptions are limited to how good a sound they make. I'm always up for any stage production, be it musical, spoken word, plays, etc.; I just really appreciate the raw elements of a live performance. I play guitar. I write a ton of lyrics that will never get spoken/sung, and think a bunch of things that I know would baffle just about anybody. Reason being, when you work at the library, you become a tome of useless knowledge, and I like to share! :). I also play bass, and the dulcimer, (for all who know what a dulcimer is!) but recreational at best. I'm teaching myself piano at the moment...ask me how thats going ... I'm constantly looking for new music that helps me learn to be a better drummer, in practically every genre, but mostly rock and indie varieties. I love road trips and traveling; I want to see the world someday, but I'd like to do it with someone special preferably. I'd like to be a child psychologist someday...but we will see what the ol' wallet says about that.
I'd like to meet:
Everyone really. I tend to say less; I am more of a listener like I said. Make me laugh and I'll try to act in reciprocate, it's one of those simple pleasures o' mine. I'm always down for a debate as my friends will testify: I once talked about the existence of dinosaurs to a Harvest Crusade recruiter in the mall at Christmas time for over an hour. I used to be shy, but now I am just about meeting as many potential friends as possible.
Music:
I'll try to go as far down the line as I can: AFI, Aquabats, Barenaked Ladies, Beatles, Beach Boys, Braid, David Bowie, Billy Talent, Black Eyed Peas, Bright Eyes, Blink 182, (yeah yeah...) B-Sharps, Bouncing Souls, David Brubeck, Bad Religion, Bob Marley, Boston, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Eric Clapton, Dave Matthew's Band, Doyle Dykes, Dire Straits, Doors, Descendents, Dead Kennedys, Doobie Brothers, Dishwalla, Dragonforce, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Everclear, Eagles, Foo Fighters, Get-up Kids, Green Day, Gorgeous, Grounded, Grateful Dead, Hey Mercedes, Hot Rod Circuit, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Eat World, Jack Johnson James Gang, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Less Than Jake, The Living End, The Mars Volta, Made on Malice, Marco Minneman, Madness, Millencolin, Melee, Matchbox 20, Steve Miller Band, Minus the Bear, My Chemical Romance, John Mayer (and his trio especially!), Maroon 5, Moneen, Marvin Gaye, Motion City Soundtrack, NOFX, Ozma, Operation Ivy, Panic! At the Disco, Perfect Circle, Police, Pixies, Pink Floyd, Pennywise, Queen, The Ramones, Reggie and the Full Effect, Rush, Rod Stewart, Red Letter Day, REM, Rancid, Reel Big Fish, Saves the Day, Son Volt, Frank Sinatra, Sublime, Smashing Pumpkins, System of a Down (sometimes), Screeching Weasel, Specials, Tool, Tenacious D, The Who, The Wallflowers, Yes.
These are all band's that I've either learned something from by watching or listening to them, or bands that helped me develop into who I am as a listener and a musician. (There will most likely be a few more added, I was just remembering the list in my head...and in alphabetical order no less!)See what working for the library system for seven years can do to your organizational skills?!
Movies:
Wow, uh...all of em?
Well, alot anyways. I'm not too critical of movies...I'm not too cynical in general, and I can usually deduce the intentions in something and make the best of it. Then again, they did do a remake of Planet of the Apes...so they can't all be winners...
Television:
Lost, Simpsons, Family Guy, Dirty Jobs,How its Made, American Gladiators, Scrubs, mid-90s SNL, Drew Carey, Mythbusters, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, MXC!! National Geographic or Discovery documentaries...you know how well they hook you!! Pretty much anything I can find when I am not watching a movie. Normally when I am watching TV I like to be amused rather than educated, but I don't put myself past passive learning from the old boob tube now and then, especially since I got my 51" widescreen :) I work at a library however, and most that I seek to learn, I learn from a book.
Books:
All Creatures Great & Small, All Things Bright & Beautiful, The Lord God Created them All, All Things Wise and Wonderful, God Bless the Beasts and Children, the Lord of the Rings series, Treasure Island, Robinson Crusoe, Grapes of Wrath, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dandelion Wine, Masked Rider, Ghost Rider (not the comic!), Traveling Music, 1984, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Flowers for Algernon, Fahrenheit 451, Gulliver's Travels, The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The Island of Dr. Moreau, War of the Worlds, Catcher in the Rye, Jude the Obscure, Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Dharma Bums, On the Road, The Harry Potter series, A Clockwork Orange, Playboy's Bartender Guide, Wicked, Mouse Tales, Sexual Pleasure (A book written by one of my professors, and it is really good!) Most recently the Song of Ice and Fire series
Heroes:
My mother~ For all those who don't know, she is an amazing woman, and it does not take a momma's boy to understand that.
My dad~He made me who I am; I practically inherited his personality (and good looks I think)
Neil Peart~Drummer, poet, author, and student of the world. Through his greatest hardships I've learned much about life and living. His musicianship never ceases to inspire me.I even got a tattoo of his starman logo!!Aside from those, not too many distinctions can be made. I admire anyone who listens to their heart, and doesn't give in to convention: Honest musicians, working poor, starving artists, authentic and determined students, and everyone standing up for the evil in this world. I feel bad for the soldiers all the time, and hope the madness over in the middle east ends soon for their sake, not just for ours.
