*** RECENT NEWS ***
The “rock-n-roll” lifestyle can take its toll. After more than a decade of traveling without family, performing late into the night, teaching music at church, being a dad, and being a husband...something needed to give.
So, with a “big bang,” the cattail kid celebrated his final rock performance at the farthest north rock-n-roll bar in the world, The Howling Dog Saloon (in beautiful Fox, Alaska), on October 4, 2008. The remarkable talents of Greg “Dr. G.” Goering, the fabulous Kathi “Kit Kat” Rogers (...she came up from Utah~!), the Rev, and Fungi Joe joined cattail on stage, and blew the roof off the bar. The show was labeled by “dog” patrons as “one of their best shows ever~!!! ”
What’s next? With late nights, smoky bars, and traveling away from family now in his rear view mirror, cattail is now deep in the studio, and collaborating with Anchorage musicians. A harmony-filled, fully-bodied acoustic album is in the works, and slated for release in 2012.
*** BIOGRAPHY ***
The cattail kid is an Interior Alaskan whose current work is a mysterious collision of modern folk and classic rock. He’s also a multi-genre producer, songwriter, and bassist. Ah, who gives a sh*t, ...he’s just a guy who likes to be doing music when not asleep~!
For the last five years, cattail kid kept life good by simply cranking out everyone’s favorite 70s, 80s, and 90s classics with Fairbanks-based Legends of Rock. The band was fortunate enough to have the vocal talent of “California” Steve Graves for most of those years. After Steve’s move to Utah in May 2007, “Kit Kat” Rogers stepped into the vox slot. She rocked-off socks until also moving to Utah in 2008. What is it with all the great singers moving to Utah? Nashville or LA is understandable...but Salt Lake City? Oh, well...life goes on...The band’s favorite venues included the Howling Dog Saloon, the Big I, the Refinery Lounge, the Gold Rush Saloon, the Talkeetna Music Festival, the UAF pub, and the Tanana Valley State Fair Beer and Barley Tent.
At the turn of the century, cattail joined forces with 6-string extraordinaire “Dr. G.” Before the rock duo “locked in” with the Legends of Rock format, they were accompanied by a handful of great musicians. Under names such as Seizure, Trainwreck, the cattail kid band, Mental Patience, and 4-Play, they performed throughout Alaska.
Upon arrival to Alaska in 1996, the cattail kid was bassist for the acoustic rock band Trainwreck. "Train Comin" was released in 1999, the same year he married the love of his life, Michelle, and was even lucky enough to spent the next two performing with Alaskan folk legends Matt Hammer and Loren Arment. Cattail was quoted saying, “I learned more about music in one year from these two, ...now close friends, ...than in my previous 20 years”

In the early 80s, the “young” cattail was performing and recording in Crosslake, Minnesota. While on vacation in Florida, he and Jamie Reed put their first original on a 4-track. After Brent’s Aunt won a drum set on “The Price is Right,” (not kidding) they called Jeff and formed the band “Chopper Loose.” A decade later, after releasing "I Can't Believe I'm Still Here" and livin' their youth like rock stars, "The Last Frontier" called him North.
Cattail's business, Hip Boot Productions, has been focusing on recording and producing original country, rock, folk and christian music.www.hipbootproductions.com

Although life does slow down when the temperatures dip below -30, it is re-assuring to realize that both good changes continue to come forth and creative juices keep flowing. Some second tho...
