I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

All my life I wanted to get away from my next-to-no-opportunity-havin' hometown of Elmira NY and become a horror movie director, a philosophy professor, a television station worker guy, or a fireman. For a brief spell, I also toyed with the idea of being a Bond-nemisis-type Mad Scientist intent on cleansing and removing humanity (yes, even me) from the Earth. That didn't pan out obviously, because you're reading this now.I escaped from Elmira and now I live in Sacramento and make television. After driving a live truck, shooting sports, dealing with the public, and working in-house in the smaller market in which I started, I decided to only work in-house. Now I'm sotra a utility guy around the number one station in a top 20 tv market. I'm primarily a master control operator, but I often roll tapes for the news or work the robotic studio cameras.
Life turned out better than just ok. I live in a city where people smile quite a bit more than other places I've lived. Here, it's 80 degrees in late October and flowers bloom in February. Maybe that's part of why everyone is less miserable than places I experienced back East.
Look at a map of Sacramento and you'll see a 30 by 30 block grid downtown. I live, play, and work there. I ride a Honda scooter that tops out at about 45mph. Sometimes I'll go to Old Sac and walk around where cowboy history went down or sip espresso near where folx used to catch the steamer to SF 140 or more years ago. Sometimes I'll go by one of the rivers and chill or ride my bike along the American River Trail. Sometimes I'll just hop on my bike or the scoot and just go.
Then there's Nicola. I'm in love with the coolest chick I've ever known. She's my best friend, too. She's beautiful and smart and can most likely cook better than you. We have many adventures, too. She's a math whizkid who does statistical analysis for the state. Look in my friends section for Lola Pinkwater's page and check her out.

My Interests

My interests (biking, disc golf, scooting, movies and on and on) right now all seem to be reducible to days off. You know how I mean: if you have the time off work, you can have the whole day to do what you choose. Instead of selling your labor, use it for your own benefit or the benefit of those around you, even if only for a day or two a week.I really dig my tv job. I've busted my ass for years to get the skill set to work in a tv station in a top 20 market. So my work is an interest, too, I guess. I'm forever trying to do better at making tv. I feel fortunate to work the sweet-ass union gig i work, but oh how I love my days off. For those are the days that are mine. I can spend time with Nic and not worry about some damn clock telling me what to do. (If u've listened to Lard's I am your clock, u know what I mean.)

I'd like to meet:

Jello Biafra, KRS ONE, Shonie Carter, Muhammed Ali, Robert Kennedy Jr, Margaret Sanger, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Nazi father, and Bob Kane.

Music:

I like the punk and the rock and the hip and the hop and the funk and the big and the band. I dig jazz more like Monk than Brubeck. My taste in music is all over the place.I like to listen to a lotta different music. In the last month, a sampling of what I've listened to includes:
minutemen, black flag, krs-one, mos def, sonic youth, the fall, they might be giants, buzz cocks, mef, danger doom, and DJs of mass destruction.i listen to a lot of shit over and over. but then again, don't you too?

Movies:

Movies rule. I have a netflix account so I can watch movies all the time.
I just saw Pan's Labyrinth. Holy dark faerie tales! If you like lil bits of ultraviolence, twisted storylines, and endings that could be interpreted as happy or sad, then this movie is for you.

Television:

TUF, UFC, Kung Faux, Heroes, Simpsons, Robot Chicken, South Park, 30 Rock, Deadliest Catch, and old kung fu or godzilla movies are all welcome on my DVR.

Books:

The part of me that loved reading books has gotten beat down by grad school just like the part of me that loved snowboarding got beat down by the header I took that almost broke my neck.i'm reading another book about Bodie CA. cool place to visit or read about.

Heroes:

Batman (because he rules), Francis Whitford (because he showed me how to share with and give to others), Lester Clark (because he showed me about the conviction required to take on the man), Jello Biafra (because he embodies the whole d.i.y. punkrock ethic), and KRS-ONE (because he rhymes the truth), to name but a few.Your results:
