Primarily comprised of brothers, Los Arcos were also referred to as "Los Hermanos Pena". In those years, conjunto music was new to that part of the country, yet they found an appreciative audience. In the early eighties, Los Arcos moved to Dimmitt, Texas, where their definitive style developed into the polished sound that it is today. The close-knit family bond of this group is also reflected in their music. Luis Pena, the group's leader, says, "We came from a family of eleven children, and our parents always encouraged us to pursue our interest in music." His brother Gilberto Pena added, "our parents always told us to work together, and to respect each other's views and opinions." This family unity has strengthened the group tremendously, and has earned them the respect and admiration of many fans and radio stations.Los Arcos' first album was recorded in 1980 and soon after its release, the group started receiving airplay in Amarillo and Lubbock, as well as in Chicago. In 1986, they toured Mexico for six months and during this time, they were asked to accompany the famous Cornelio Reyna and recorded 35 songs for Musart Records. "Music is our life," says Luis Pena. "We don't have another job, and therefore we give our all to music." In 1987, the group began recording for Hacienda Records. Their popularity soon soared, making them a celebrated group throughout Texas, Mexico and other states. Los Arcos have been featured several times on "The Johnny Canales Show," as well as other Latino TV shows and have been nominated for many regional awards. They recorded most of their finest music at a time when traditional long-play albums were no longer being manufactured but before the advent of CDs. Consequently, many of their finest work remains unheard.{}I made this myspace background at BackgroundStation.com
