About Me

A broken beat, chunky bassline and a whole lot of booty-shaking funk is what makes Mono Lisa smile. Combining smooth mixes and beats with attitude, Lisa stays true to the breakbeat sound that moves her. She has been a regular player at Perth breaks events since late 2005 and is known for delivering her sets with energetic enthusiasm.Lisa is a resident at Ambar's long-running night 'Japan 4' and most often closes proceedings to a packed dancefloor. Supporting international artists such as Rennie Pilgrem, Hyper, Superstyle Deluxe, Alex Metric, Baobinga & ID, Janette Slack and Skool of Thought to name a few, she has been nominated for the Best Female DJ award in the Perth Dance Music Awards since her debut and she won the award in 2007 and 2008. Lisa is also a member of the crew behind the recently launched 'Force Majeure' night at Ambar - a night dedicated to the harder sounds in breaks, tech and house. Mono Lisa's obvious passion for a broken beat ensures that her sets are always up-front, entertaining and purely broken. ..

I'm a Perth girl who loves her friends, family, good times and (most of all) her breaks! I've been playing breaks around Perth for a few years now, and have played for most crews, including the Foreshadows, Destination?, The Fuzz, Backbeat, Next Level, Uber Bar and iVinyl. These days my favourite place to play is at Ambar for Japan 4. Music has always been a big part of my life and has shaped my character: from listening to my dad's Cream and Rolling Stones LP's when I was little, to my teen obsession with Seattle grunge, my long-held appreciation for punk, ska and the heavier stuff, and now my decade-long affliction for dance music... my tastes are wide and varied and I love pushing the boundaries and broadening my musical horizons!By day I work in a big concrete tower in the city; by night you'll find me behind the decks (or at least near some), having a boogie and enjoying life!
