About Me

For all those strangers out there looking for a warm embrace...my name is Ryan Sarmiento and I'm currently a college student living and floating around in Southern California. Connect the dots to the places I've lived around the world and you would have quite the complex spiderweb, but it is safe to say that the Inland Empire and the Riverside area is where I grew up and that the Los Angeles and Hollywood area is my home. I just finished up my time over at Riverside Community College taking care of most of my general ed, and transfered and earned my degree at a private music school called Musician's Institute located in the heart of Hollywood on the famous Hollywood Blvd. I session a whole lot with bands and groups from one music style to another either locally or from set gigs. Here are some of the following artists I've played and sessioned with recently: an awesome girl with a unique and interesting indie rock sound "Angie Mattson" (angiemattson.com), a great session guitarist that has a straight ahead rock vibe "Rob Michaels" (robmichaels.com), Berklee alumni with a round rock sound "Jeff Philips" (myspace.com/jeffphilipsmusic), Musician's Institute alumni with a smooth acoustic feel "John Nagle" (myspace.com/johnnybluemusic), a girl from Iran with a dark classical world sound songwriter "Mahsa Aumitris" (myspace.com/mahsaaumitris), a low down r&b and funk chick from Lebenon vocalist "Lila Brown" (myspace.com/lilabrown), and with my spunky close friend vocalist, recording artist "Joanna Aynat" (myspace.com/onehotsuzy). Don't be surprised if I start taking random pictures and portraits of you when we meet...I've been addicted to photography ever since I got a digital camera for my 20th birthday, and it's an addiction that just isn't going to wither away. Other than diving and working towards my main interests (music, cinematography, and writing), chillin' and hanging out with the people closest to me is where most of my free time goes. Check out my experiences from time to time and post a comment or send me a message if you would like......enjoy!...and remember, "love is home". "Stolen from Vanessa" Song Playing: Elysian Fields "Stop the Sun"
Amber circles stretch astonishing silencing glassy water where we've never been, backwards. Shining waves within each other spin. No one sees them on the rocks of feeling sinking in, reckless. I wanna weep, I wanna run, I wanna stop the sun from setting, don't let it go. Take this kiss I'm blowing through this dream silently. All alone you find out what it means...love. I wanna weep, I wanna run, I wanna stop the sun from setting, don't let it go. I wanna spin, I wanna whirl, I wanna stop the world from getting cold, don't let it go. Baby it's alright, I will not forget. We'll close it down, we'll come back. I will not forget...I will not forget. While I trace another full moon moving us backwards, still the night. If I could change this restless blindside longing, wouldn't I?...oh I would. I wanna weep, I wanna run, I wanna stop the sun from setting, don't let it go. I wanna spin, I wanna whirl, I wanna stop the world from getting cold, don't let it go. "Elysian Fields"

My Interests

Interested and curious about everything and anything about everything, and about anything in between. Believe in reincarnation?...perhaps being a "free range" horse in the next life would be great: run all day with your friends and eat grass (food at your feet), and play soccer because a horse's kick would be so powerful, plus there would never be a bad hair day. Or perhaps a dolphin: swim all day with your crew (surf when the waves are just right) and as you're moving underwater keep your mouth open and eat fishies. Also you could travel anywhere in the world because the oceans connect, just remember to bring a coat if you decide to travel somewhere cold...like Iceland or where ever.

Music:

I listen to everything from Jazz and Latin, Hip Hop and Rap, Rock and Metal, even some electronica. Here's a list of some artists that you might find in my CD collection...Chick Corea, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Count Basie, Santana, Weather Report, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, King Crimson, Rush, The Police, Metallica, Pantera, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, The Red Chord, Dillinger Escape Plan, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, The Roots, Atmosphere, Living Legends, Felt, Aceyalone, Haiku D' tat, Pigeon John, The Streets, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, Big L, Common, Gym Class Heroes, Ozomatli, Busdriver, Erikah Badu, Alicia Keys, India Arie, Prince, NERD, The Neptunes, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Ben Folds, Rage Against the Machine, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, G.Love, Damien Rice, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Incubus, 311, Matisyahu, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Broken Social Scene, Sufjan Stevens, Ray Lamontagne, Elliott Smith, The Notwist, Aphex Twin, Sigur Ros, Massive Attack, Squarepusher, Radiohead, Coheed and Cambria, Hot One, Copeland, Minus the Bear, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Cold War Kids, Rilo Kiley, Cat Power, Feist, Imogen Heap, Kaki King, Regina Spektor, Bjork, Fiona Apple, MIA, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amy Winehouse, The Shins, The Postal Service, TV on the Radio, The Division Group, At the Drive In, Bloc Party, and The Mars Volta. "The Mars Volta"

Movies:

When I have the chance I check out the The Independent Film Channel. Darren Aronofsky's films are great like PI and Requiem for a Dream, Quentin Tarantino's movies since Resevior Dogs to the Kill Bill volumes are great too, and the Akira Kurosawa catalog including The Seven Samurai is a must have. Purple Rain. Takashi Miike's Visitor Q, Ichi the Killer, and Audition. Michel Gondry music videos and movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are delicious, Hard Candy is sweet, and french films like the 400 Blows are tasty. Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings is cool...being a nerd because of these movies is fine by me. One of my all time favorite movies has to be Luc Besson's "Leon The Professional". If you haven't seen it make sure to check out the international release version, the american version has thirty minutes cut out and that's horrible. "Leon the Professional"

Television:

I hardly watch TV anymore (most of the stuff on TV is just lame and very un-original), but when I do decide to take hold of the remote control when I have nothing else better to do, I usually watch some Fuse Music, Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, some shows off Animal Planet, The Independent Film Channel (especially art films), some really good cartoons like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and South Park (there's a lesson in every episode), Late Night with Conan O' Brian, Last Call with Carson Daly, and Chappelle's Show. "Dave Chappelle"

Books:

I get consumed by books at times, and the most recent books that I've read are "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky and "Battle Royale" by Koushun Takami. A couple of my all-time favorite books are Alexander Key's "The Incredible Tide" and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince". At the moment I'm reading "The Fuck Up" by Arthur Nersesian (love the title)....thank you Holli Zenko for letting me steal the book from you, and I promise I'll return it once I'm through. "The Fuck Up"
