Sometimes I love the feeling of writing 'what I know' like the experience of being near a wild highland oxen, or a real jousting tournament where 'knights' on Frisians battle and test their skill.
My Father is of Scot descent. My Grandfather came from Ireland. My husband is Welsh. I love to draw from the people I know to fill in my characters. I have spend many long afternoons driving through the hills along Huron discussing how a Laird would act if his bride did not understand her 'place' as the mistress of a manor, or what a highlander would do if confronted with a wilful woman who offered her heart - no strings attached.
I have two books ready for release:
The Pledge is about a woman who is ignorant of the ways between a man and a woman. All she knows is that she has found a family - finally - and she must do anything to save her new family, even if it means heading to the Tower of London instead of her husband.
The Pawn is set in the same time period. I love the Stuart era. Women ruled. The bible had not been 'abridged'. Feudal lords still ruled. In this story my heroine, a countess, is caught between two queens, two religions, and two worlds. She will be sold into marriage at 11 by Mary I, trapped in a scheme of treachery by Queen Elizabeth, and forced to live among highlanders by Mary Queen of Scot. In the end, place her head on a chopping block for the love of the only man who saw her as something more than a 'pawn.'
