ABOUT D-PROJECTS
Founded by award- winning actor/director/playwright Teo Castellanos, the all male company, D-Projects represents a cross section of conservatory and street trained artists who have joined forces to create provocative contemporary performance. Influenced by the collages of Romare Bearden, Juan Sanchez and the compositions of John Coltrane, D-Projects fuses ancient traditions with contemporary performance and B-Boy choreography confronting social issues and bringing world rituals to the stage.

NE 2nd Avenue
Written and Performed by Teo Castellanos
Directed by Michael John Garces
A jitney becomes a metaphor for a journey that takes the audience through the bumpy streets of Miami. The work conveys, with poignancy and humor, the profoundly rich and textured mix of Miami, in which distinct Cuban, Haitian, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, Jewish, and African American influences share their stories. NE 2nd Avenue brings voice to marginalized urban populations, exploring underlying issues of racism and social injustice, acknowledging the differences among us and ultimately discovering the common threads that bind us together.
NE 2nd Avenue won the 2003 Fringe First Award, was nominated for a South Florida Carbonell Award and was voted Best Solo Performance by Miami New Times and Best Original Play by Miami Beach Sun Post in 2002.
"Every Fringe offers up one solo show so brilliantly conceived and so fabulously acted that it goes instantly to the compartment of the brain marked 'reasons I go to the theatre'. This year it is Teo Castellanos's NE 2nd Avenue." -The Scotsman
Lithe, Expressive and Intelligent. By any measure NE 2nd Avenue is a major theatrical event... -Miami New Times
