Driving vocals, energetic stage presence and an ability to tailor her sets to a wide variety of audiences have caused this young artist to be received by audiences and venues alike. Her R&B Fusion style, which incorporates jazz, soul, hiphop and acoustic pop/rock influences has found a cross-genre, cross-generational and multi-ethnic audience to call home. Not to mention she has worked with musicians who tour both nationally and internationally with known performers such as Roberta Flack, Johnny Winters, The Temptations and the late Luther Vandross, as well as many of the NYC jazz greats. Her style is all her own, but she can credit Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Gladyss Knight, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Lauryn Hill, and even Paul Simon as influences. Some have compared her to the aforementioned as well as Phoebe Snow and Norah Jones.

Born in Indiana, but raised in multiple ethnic communities – diversity has always found its way into Traci’s musical style, which has developed into an R&B Fusion sound. She landed in Cincinnati, OH in 1995 and began actively pursuing her passion as a singer/songwriter in 1999, at which point she began playing out at local venues. In 2003, she and her husband Richie began traveling internationally, which expanded her network and provided opportunities to travel and sing with organizations in Southeast Asia for crowds of up to 40,000. She even wrote and recorded a song, “I Will Carry You,” for Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, which was also used by Foundation Life, a social welfare organization, providing assistance to underprivileged women and children in Thailand. In 2006, while based in CT, she released her first full-length CD “Greener On This Side.” Her CD Release Party drew more than 200 to local SOZO Café, a venue, which normally seats 150. As a songwriter she has a catalogue of close to 300 songs in multiple genres and was a 2007-2008 ASCAPlus Award Winner for songs from her album in the jazz and popular division. Traci’s song “Source of Life” will be on a PlaylistProductions compilation CD distributed to over 1,000 US Markets. Her band also received recognition as a 2007 Northeast Semi-finalist in the Independent Music World Series. She toured New England in 2006 and 2007 in a variety of venues, such as The Space, Wintonbury Coffeehouse, Reality Café, Kennedy’s Midtown Boston, The Hungry Tiger, Borders, Brewed Awakenings, RI, Daniels Street, The Lion’s Den NYC and many other restaurants and coffeehouses throughout New England. In April of 2007, she was invited as one of six independent artists to showcase at GMA Week in Nashville, TN. In July 2007, she joined forces with Indie Extreme and founded her own label, Greener Music, LLC and in September she and her husband relocated to Nashville, TN. In addition, to her award-winning talents and critical acclaim, she also uses her voice to promote and support social justice issues, and is a member of Justice For Children Internationals’ artist coalition. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, she also collaborates with other musicians and is a former background vocalist for Latin, Funk-Rock Sandoval Band. Currently Traci is collaborating and preparing for her next CD release and a national tour slated for 2008.

Order Greener On This Side now at www.traciroot.com/products.asp or www.cdbaby.com/cd/traciroot Tracis debut album Greener on This Side, containing twelve original tracks, features seasoned musicians and local talent alongside her driving vocals.Songs such as Please Believe Me, Down and Out and I Wanna Go To Heaven are easy crowd-pleasers and in the words of bass guitarist, Scott Spray, premier bass player for Johnny Winters, make you wanna dance. R&B guitarist, Phil Hamilton, who toured with such legends as Luther Vandross and Roberta Flack, nails guitar solos on Any Longer and Beauty for Ashes. The album also features, local talent and edge from lead guitarist, Jean Sandoval. Pocket grooves by Sean Moffitt and amazing jazz infused piano solos by Nick Bariluk, that often serve as a second voice, musically drive this debut. The final track, Star, is a piano/vocal solo that comes straight from the heart. The album contains a lot of personal experience and growth. Its who I am, who Im created to be, but it is so accessible to all of us. The overall feel is very upbeat, but theres a lot of hard lessons in there. The grass isnt greener on the other side. Its greener on this side, but its a lot about perspective and knowing the truth, because the truth will set you free. I think this album will bring a lot of joy and freedom to its listeners.

Influences: Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Gladys Knight, Al Green, Alicia Keys, Joss Stone, Marc Broussard, Norah Jones, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Otis Redding, Rich Mullins, Paul Simon, Darwin Hobbes, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Roberta Flack, Ed Cash, TuPac Shakur, Salvador Band (errr, uhhh I mean SANDOVAL BAND), Aretha Franklin

Sounds Like:

I would love to connect with fans of Classic R&B, Gospel, Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and Folk Rock (and more)! I love musical diversity and fusion so my album is a bit of a sonic kaleidascope. People have compared me with Norah Jones, Alicia Keys, Basha, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Joss Stone, Whitney Houston (believe it or not. Ha!) I have even been compared to Wynona Judd and Leann Rimes (Have no idea how that happened.)...wish they compared me to Stevie Wonder...he is a major influence nonetheless. People have commented that they think my album is perfect for long-distance driving, house cleaning, prayer and intercession, dancing around the house (or in public) and entertaining guests and small children. I like to think of my genre as "Prophetic R&B". It's fusion with a message to groove through life with! I love people's feedback...maybe you could let me know what it reminds you of?
