Fantastic Planet

It was a great time in our lives!

About Me

Fantastic Planet is and will always be fun, energetic, peaceful. harmonious and spirited music. In December 1996, Scott, Derek, Brad, Jay and Karli set out to make new music. Pieced together with different elements of sound and style which harnessed each members experience, inspiration and love. Through sound manipulation, experimentation and gifted song writing skills, Fantastic Planet created a trip-funk-soul hybrid that has stood the test of time. Since that first meeting in December 1996, several changes have been made to fill out the sound as appropriately. An M.C. never really made it in the group but Tim Dog aka TILO was an interesting choice for awhile and original member Karli sung herself out of the job by not really knowing what in tune meant. A really nice girl none the less. Jeff came into the rehearsal space blew on his flute and was on point, he made the cut. His level of knowledge about music exceeded most in the band. Jason became the percussionist after we had auditioned a couple percusionists. A D.J. never worked out but those duties were handled by the D.J. for Hed Pe., his cuts are on these tracks. The first warehouse show was fitting as it was a time to iron out the wrinkles. All our friends and family were out to support and it was time to establish our sound. We were working with a rapper at the time, name unknown, who had no stage presence, he just stood off to the side and kind of mumbled when it was his part but other than his lack of confidence, he never came back, we got a feel for the crowd and they were feeling it! Fast foward to our crowning moment, 1998 ASR tradeshow, Fantastic Planet opened up for Blink 182 and The Black Eyed Peas in San Diego, this was the year before they both broke big. The Fantastic Planet sound moved forward and we played out several times. Gianda was moving in a different direction mentally and the remaining members did not want to continue on as instrumental artists. Fantastic Planet is not dead and never will be, we are a production crew now, looking for a female vocal talent that exceeds even what Gianda could do. Many of the members are doing other things but there is never a time when either one of us thinks back to that time without smiling. Fantastic Planet if only in theory will continue on!
