I'd like to meet:
Anyone who can make me laugh
Music:
Where do i begin? i'm a sucker for the UK rock/indie scene but in no true preferential order--Radiohead, Fiona Apple, Jeff Buckley, Lou Reed, the Doors, Nirvana, Placebo, the Smiths, the Cure, the Pixies, Incubus, Zeppelin, Hendrix, CCR, Simon and Garfunkel, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blur, the Beatles, Beck, Belle & Sebastian, Fugazi, Alice in Chains, Moe, Buzzcocks, Pearl Jam, My Bloody Valentine, Air, the Kills, Muse, Tori Amos, Sublime, Cat Stevens, Elliott Smith, Interpol, PJ Harvey, Ani DiFranco, Dandy Warhols, the Black Keys, the Streets, Thievery Corporation, the Autumns, Keren Ann, Andrew Bird, Black Lips, Depeche Mode, RHCP, The Chemical Brothers, Amon Tobin, Ramones, Yo La Tengo, Of Montreal, The Fiery Furnaces, Scissor Sisters, Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Velvet Underground, Chopin, David Bowie, the Twilight Sad, Black Lips, Of Montreal, Wolfmother, Little Birdy, Sleepy Jackson, Otis Redding, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday.
Movies:
Anything by Richard Linklater--(esp Before Sunrise/Sunset, because I'm a romantic at heart), nearly everything by Scorcese, Woody Allen, Lars Von Triers, P.T. Anderson, Wes Anderson, Polanski, Bertolucci, Tarantino, and Gus Van Sant (i know these are stock answers, but what can i say, they make the best films), also American Beauty, Requiem for a Dream, Reality Bites, Harold and Maude, Swingers, Trainspotting, anything with Jim Carrey, Labyrinth, and docs like Black Gold, Fahrenheit 9/11, Born Into Brothels, and Iraq in Fragments. Yes this list is long, but what can i say, I was a film major.
Television:
Try not to watch too much tv with the exception of channels like IFC and HBO. But I especially admire the multitude of reality shows for showcasing such sophisticated and intelligent people who can teach me about the varying degrees of narcisscism and ways to pick a fight.
Books:
Favorites: A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and anything by Dave Eggers, Middlesex, anything David Sedaris, Sarah, the Alchemist, the Celestine Prophecy, anything Haruki Murakami especially The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Rule of the Bone, Revolutionary Road, Lolita, Life of Pi, Confederacy of Dunces, Galapagos, and the Dalai Lama's Art of Happiness.
Heroes:
Today they are too few and far between as everyone seems to fall slave to the big bad corporations and the U.S. continues to make enemies everyday while feeding the public bullshit. So anyone who stands up to the status quo (in a humanitarian way) is a hero in my book.
