About Me

The Grand Surgeon was given that moniker in the mid 1980's when rap was still not being played on the radio waves except for college stations, late at night (Awesome Two, Mr. Magic, DNA- Hank Love ) and the weekend slot shows (Red Alert, Marley Marl etc.) Before he could afford a turntable and speakers set , G.S. would make mix tapes w/ tape recorders ! He would use metal tapes, 1 turntable a receiver and 2 boom boxes. After listening to each track for the timing and b.p.m.'s he would bounce each track onto the other and create mixes w/ scratches and drops. The kids in the neighborhood couldn't even tell how it was created but his tapes were distributed with much success. When the mic was employed it was a wrap! With experience, rhyming from the early age of 10 while living and growing up in Brooklyn, N.Y. (Flatbush, East Flatbush, Park Slope, Fort Hamilton Pkwy., Sunset Park, Coney Island, Bensonhurst, Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge).... He and his brother the legendary Crazy Dreski and their mentor Justice ripped mics at house parties, street fairs, in cyphers, clubs and recording studios. Throughout the gangsta rap era their group KINGSTAFF made a mark in the underground scene. With a short lived record contract (voided because of illegal activities of certain associates) the Grand Surgeon continued to grind out tracks and make a name for him and his crew. They met up w/ a Desert Storm vet. in the late 80's a.K.a. General F.X.(FOUX International) and continued to develop their skills and make music. It's been a long road and he is still dropping lyrics and tracks from the heart! From the early 80's (breakdance and graffiti era) 'til now the Grand Surgeon writes and spits about his experiences to build and influence listeners in a positive way. His affiliation w/ the 67MOB goes back to the groups inception as a mentor to them as well.
