About Me

If you ever heard of those Big Johnson shirts that got kids thrown out of school a while back, that was me behind it all. I attended a college where the weekends started on Thursday and ran til Tuesday. It would have been the best time of my life if upon graduation I hadn't run away to the beach for 8 years of surfing, guarding and bumming.I rejoined life and, by some stroke of luck, found myself drawing cartoons for a living. I continue to draw and make jokes all day.It ain't a bad gig.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Rob Zombie. Mr. Lawrence and Clancy Brown. Coop, Shag and Von Franco. Betty Page. Borat. John Lassiter. John K. Johnny Quest. Big Daddy Roth. Little Steven. April March.

My Blog

The Story Continues

With only the directions "head south on 1" I took off out of Dover (and my first NASCAR signing event) and made my way to Rehoboth. I came up over the Indian River Inlet bridge and slowed to see if th...

My Celebrity Moment in the Sun

While I don't bring it up at PTA meetings, my real job is drawing all those Big Johnson shirts you saw everywhere in the 90's. If it does come up I get one of 3 responses: "Man, I loved those shirts",...

The Prodigal Roommate

Life...I realize at my age...is far too short to hold a grudge.A while back I was shocked, and at the same time, not surprised when my old roomie and surf pal Bruce Silvano emailed me. Bruce was...and...

The Road(trip) Less Traveled

Dean and I spent 2 weeks driving from OC to Ft. Lauderdale in a Chevy van crammed with surfboards and doritos. We left OC on a rainy October day and headed south. It had been a particularly warm fall ...

The Drunk Ghosts of OC Past

There used to be a dive called BILLY's on 143rd street in North OC. I loved that place when I lived there. It was the site of my initiation into beach life my very first summer as a guard. My crew was...

The First Day

I had just passed the lifeguard test in OC a day before and it had been the hardest thing I'd ever done in my whole life...at least physically. We had swum in cold water all morning (59 degrees...it w...

The Fine Use of Bedsheets

I learned a valuable life lesson one week in OC: take things as they come and you'll be happier for it.Here's what happened. It was announced that Otis Day and the Knights were going to be playing at...

Painting the Tuna Boat

When you guard in OC you have a day and a half off each week. As roommates working on different crews, we'd all try to line up our days off to coincide, so we could cause some sort of mayhem. The only...

I forgive you, Batman

I was going through some old magazines when I came across an early issue of Barracuda. The cover sported a Betty Page lookalike in front of the original Batmobile (from the 60' TV show). It triggered ...
