About Me

.. ..
Check out my professional page!
Heyyy. My name is Greg Van Bastelaar.
I live in downtown Toronto. I work in Toronto. I have previously worked in Music Publishing for Warner Chappell. I have also worked as a freelance Record Producer for Big Boom Entertainment. Currently, I work at an organization called FACTOR.
I grew up in a small, backwards town called Port Elgin (The P dot). I got the hell out of there (really, I do love it now!) and went to Wilfrid Laurier University for Philosophy and Psychology. I later moved to Toronto (The T dot) in 2001 to attend The Trebas Institute for Recorded Music Production. Why did I go to Trebas you might ask? I llllovvvve music. I cannot tell you how amazing it is to be following my passion in life.
So, msg me. If you want to grab a drink and talk music and movies...cool. I've been on MySpace for ohhh I don't know...a couple of years? Who knows. I've met some cool people on here! Just don't add me and walk away though -- at least say hi dammit!!! I don't have 4387 friends in real life... .. ..

Modern Music Malaise

Recently I've watched Almost Famous and I've listened to Icky Thump by The White Stripes. Now, I'm not sure of how much of a fan I am of the aforementioned but I can understand the importance of what ...

The Voluntary Vs. Involuntary

A few sources have led me to some interesting thoughts tonight. A few days ago I read Robert Pirsig allude to the fact that some of the ancient Greeks perceived time in a far different manner than mo...

SRXT

I got my hands on Bloc Party's A Weekend In The City. I love this band. Whichever way you do it, check out "SRXT." It's AMAZING. It's apparently about an anti-depressant called Seroxat. Check the lyri...

13 pct of Americans not heard of global warming: report

I found this shocking! However, there may very well be statistics like this in other countries (including Canada), but let's hope not. The United States emits about a quarter of all greenhouse gases??...

Mesmerism

Hey. I actually learned this many years ago but came across it again tonight in a book I was reading. I'm sure many of you have used or heard the word "mesmerized." Now, the etymology of this word is ...

Live-Action Music Videos

I like the new My Chemical Romance record, but this new video looks so boring (plus, apparently the drummer got badly burned and had to miss some tour dates): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bbTtPL1jR...

On Karma: An Issue Of Subconscious Guilt (or lack thereof)?

Okay, so I'm waiting around for someone to get off the phone. I read something on MySpace on "Karma" and it reminded me of a brilliant little brain nugget that I had once. I was chillin' with a band i...
