Her father, a former recording studio owner and road manager for jazz fusion group “Weather Report”, and her godfather, the late Latin jazz percussionist Willie Bobo, exposed her to countless jam sessions and concerts that often took place within their home. But what truly encouraged her to belt out that first note were the sounds of Rufus & Chaka Khan blaring throughout her home constantly by her eldest sister Brenda. Before she could recite her ABC’s she was emulating various artists and thoroughly absorbing it all.“I am the product of rock, hip-hop, soul, R&B, jazz and gospel all wrapped up in one.
